I actually didn't discover Dream Theater until I discovered John Petrucci playing through his album, Suspended Animation. At the G3 concert of 2005, he was amazing with Damage Control.
Then I did some further research on what he did/does and figured out that he plays with Dream Theater. Playing songs like Panic Attack on Rock Band 2 and others were great. (And freakin hard)
Anyone else a fan on Dream Theater?

Did you hear about Mike Portnoy touring with A7X for awhile? Ever since they lost their drummer, I was wondering who A7X were going to replace him with, but when I heard Mike, I thought that was awesome.

When I say I'm a "fan" it just means I love their music...I usually do not know the names of the musicians > < it's not just dream theater...But I googled it, and yeah, good thing they found Mike Portnoy. Sorry I'm not more aware of their situation here ... (sometimes I even listen to things without even knowing the name of the singer/band).

No need to apologize for not knowing their names. There's no standard to being a fan. If anything, it's my fault for being presumptuous. But hey, it's still cool to know that there are DT fans here.

Yes, definitely.
Although I will go as far to say that they have their share of songs I hate too, but wade through the bad ad I always find jewels too.

Hell yes. They are an incredible band. I probably wouldn't like any style of progressive metal if it wasn't for them, no Queensrÿche or Fates Warning for me had there been no DT; and they're such great musicians. I mean, the least skilled (in my opinion) is Labrie, and that guy can really hit some high notes.

One of the bands I listen to all the time, I first discovered DT when my friend played In The Pressence of Enemies, part I, in his room. I become really addicted on it.
I borrowed the Systematic Chaos CD album, rip it with Windows Media Player and played it. It doesn't take long before I become one of their fans.

Great, but I still don't even think it's their best album, and in fact I'd say it's one of their worst, but it still has some of my favorite songs on it. If that doesn't say how good I think they are, then I don't know what does.

I don't think it's their best album too. I personally liked Black Clouds & Silver Linings and Octavarium better.

I'm actually not that familiar with Dream Theaters music, but I love Petrucci's guitar playing, I should probably give them a go
