I drink a lot of water myself (around 6-8 cups a day), but I would not say it causes any digestion problems. Medical research still is not sure how much you need, but it is around 2 liters which is equivalent to 6-7 cups.
If you have a diet that is rich in fiber (I.E: whole grain, some fruit and vegetables, legumes-beans, peas, etc) it actually helps break them down and makes bowel movements more easier. In addition, it is also useful for cleaning your digestive tract most of the time. So, there is no real reason I can think of. Unless you have not been used to drinking around that much before then that's understandable why.
However, I must advise against drinking too much, since it can cause Water Intoxication/Poisoning, that is most often fatal. This does not happen unless you are carelessly drinking too much (binge drinking), so need to worry. Also, don't forget to a check-up with your doctor once in awhile. This stuff I know and researched over, so I am not a doctor, lol.

Drinking a lot while eating will mess with your digestion. For optimal digestion, drink water 30 mins-1 hour before and after eating.

This would probably explain why I keep getting stomach problems.

to me, i dont think theres anything wrong. I drink way more than 8 glasses a day. Its just that you shouldnt drink too much where it comes to the point that your stomach hurts with each step you take.

Drinking plenty of water is fine, but you should not over do it, since this could cause an imbalance in your body's electrolytes causing serious cell and kidney problems. For example if you exercise a lot you should hydrate with sport drinks and not water. Furthermore if you have problems going to the bathroom, you should first go about improving you diet adding more fiber or you could try to use probiotics (friendly gut bacteria). Water will help but up to a point, if it's a serious problem you should consult a doctor too (i'm food science major just in case)

The whole "don't drink while eating" theory is BS, btw. The military tells folks that so they'll feel fuller on less, and have to use the toilet less frequently. ;)
Drinking while eating helps digestion and to break down food into more manageable portions. Think about it this way: more food broken down by liquids = more surface area on digested particles, so they are absorbed better and move more easily. :)

Drinking Too Much Water Will Not Kill You. I Have Drank At Least 3 Litres A Day For The Past 3 Years, And Im Not Dead.

I read somewhere that some random dude pulled the whole 8 glasses a day thing out of his ass. it was a long time ago, but i think it said that was almost too much water for one day depending on how active you are. i rarely drink more than three 12-16oz. glasses a day.
i can't eat without a beverage of some kind. my saliva gets thick when i eat, and that makes it harder to swallow.

Drink enough water to stay well hydrated especially during hot weather. There really isn't any real requirement for how much you need to drink every day since everyone's metabolic needs are different and can even change daily. Unless you have cardiac issues like heart failure or pre-existing kidney problems, it shouldn't be a problem.
