The rules are as follows:
1) Contestants should cook 1 main course and at least 2 other dishes (appetizer, side dish, or dessert). The entire meal should be centered around a theme chosen by the contestant. Some examples of themes would be "Family Traditions", "Foreign Foods", themes centered around a certain ingredient, etc.
2) Have at least 3 pictures of the preparation process and 2 pictures of the final products. For verification, pictures should include a sign with your Fakku username and the date (the sign should be in the picture, not added afterwards). There is no upper limit to the number of pictures, but just exercise judgement.
3) Write a short essay (400-750 words) explaining why you chose to cook the dishes you did and how they tie into the theme.
4) Everybody can join; however, we will only accept one entry per contestant. You can change your entry as much as you want as long as it's before the deadline, but there can be only one!
5) Post your entry as a separate thread on Food and Cooking with the tag [FHCB] (Fakku Holiday Cooking Bonanza) or a variation thereof, and post a link to it on this thread. You must post a link to your entry in this thread or we will NOT consider it.
6) Winners will be chosen by a panel including myself, Nikon, and Steven H.
Since we are on the internet and cannot taste each other's food, entries will be judged on the following:
40% Plating and Presentation - Use creative plate design and presentation, make fancy knife cuts, take great pictures, etc. Make us want to take the first flight available to your place so we can partake of your delicious dish!
40% Recipe and directions - You must post the recipes you use, and a source/link to said recipes if available. If you create your own recipes, use rare ingredients, or make something difficult and/or time-consuming, that will gain more points. Recipes will be judged on how delicious they sound and how well they fit the theme you chose.
20% Creative explanation or essay - Tell us a great story about the meal you cooked. Stories that are humorous or those that give us the feels get plus points. Half-assed stories and those that have grammatical errors will get deductions!
The contest will run from now until 11:59pm PST on December 31, 2012. Winners will be announced a week after the contest is over. Good luck, and get cooking!

Just a question, though.
If, for example, an ingredient to an unoriginal linked recipe is unavailable at our region or is way too expensive, can we use substitutes?

Of course!
Edit: and no, plain steamed rice does not count, although if you do something fancy to it (like turn it into sushi rice) that would count.

i mean it takes some skill right? Rice-cookers are hard to use ;D

I'm just asking, Hime-sama.

I think rice as a side to the main-course should count. It just can't be a dish alone. Also you can make rice forms using small bowls or teacups, to help your presentation.

Just had a question, but would a drink count as a appetizier?
Not like a glass of water or a pint of ale, but a properly made beverage?
