Friends Teaming Up?

I spoke with a friend recently who said he was interested in a girl but is too shy to approach her so he asked me to try to find out if she likes him as a favour. We are all part of a group of friends and since he has not the courage to ask her directly, I agreed to help him out. Not surprisingly, whenever he's around her, he becomes even more shy and has trouble keeping his composure. However, it seems she has the same problem as she's really close with a friend who was always there when she tried to talk to him.

Her close friend contacted me to talk over lunch as she was a little puzzled why I seemed to be around often when her close friend and my buddy tried to start a conversation. I went out on a limb and asked her. "Is it possible that your friend is interested in him and has asked you for help? If I'm wrong, tell me I'm wrong." She paused for a minute and then said "Maybe". We both smiled as we understood the situation by her saying, "Who would have thought or even guessed that we're both in the same boat?". To which I replied. "Indeed".

Question: What is a good friend to do at this point? I've only heard of this happening before without experiencing it firsthand. Do I just tell him "Yeah, she likes you" and wish him good luck??

Well, from personal experience, don't ask her out FOR him.. if you ever think about it.. doing that never works, and it gets you in trouble.
i'd say, just tell him she likes him, and tell him to be more confident or something like that..

Just tell him to ask her out.

Also suggest he grow up and stop being a juvenile. If he likes her, he needs to show some confidence and ask her out.

Just lay down little hints that she might like him, and give him a little push to ask her out. Make it seem like it was his own idea and drive to ask her out; he'll thank you for it later in life.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I've given him a bit of a push and he's going to ask her out sometime this week so we'll see how it goes.

It's not healthy for someone to get into the habit of having a friend do recon before actually putting their own heart out there. You'll never get what you want out of life by holding back and playing it safe. It's in your friend's best interest if you let him grow a pair and go after her himself.

He hesitated several times but he finally got the courage to ask her out and they're dating now. As for her close buddy and myself, we're friends and chat quite a bit now.
