Hey guys, I would just like to know your gaming setups. Kinda want to take inspiration from you guys since my buddy wants me to help him pick out some parts.
Here's my personal rig:
CPU: AMD FX- 8350 5.0 ghz overclocked
COOLER: Cooler Master Glacer 240L
MOBO: Asus SABERTHOOTH 990FX
GPU: Asus DCUII R9 290X
RAM: 16gb ADATA XPG RAM
CASE: Cooler Master Storm Enforcer
PSU: EVGA 1000W Power Supply
SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 128 GB (Boot Drive)
HDD: WD Caviar Black 2 TB (Main Storage)
OS: Win 7 Home Premium

I'm sure you know this, but first is to know what their budget is, and second is; what do they plan on doing with it.
Anyway here is my rig, it's not the greatest but it works. Would have been better if it wasn't a buy as I went/ upgrade when I got the money rig.
CPU: intel I7 2600k was OC'd to 4.4Ghz but meh
MOBO: ASUS P8Z68-V LX
RAM: 16GB total 8GB of Crucial and 8GB G.Skill
GPU: GIGABYTE 660ti
PSU: rosewill 1000w or something, I actually can't remember XD
HDD: around 7TB no SDD's I need more storage still
OS: windows 7 ultimate
case: RAIDMAX sagittarius
cpu cooler: coolmaster V6 dual fan
monitor: accer 21.5" and a 23.6"

CPU: intel I7 870 2.93 GHz (it reaches 3.3 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost)
MOBO: ASUS P7P55D
RAM: 8 GB Corsair 1333 MHz DDR3
GPU: XFX Radeon 7970 3 GB GDDR5
PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro 650W
HDD: Samsung 1 TB Sata 3
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
Case: Cooler Master HAF 912 Plus
So, when i built this PC, in 2011, the VGA was a Radeon 6850 and the RAM was only 4 gb. At the time i spent something around 800€, now you can get the same for less than that. Anyway the 7970 is still around 300€ so...
However, with this setup, i can play recent games with absolutely no problem. Never tried recording while playing though.

CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230 v2
GPU: Evga 670 4gb SC+
RAM: 2x4gb corsair
PSU: 850w XFX
MOBO: ASRock P67 extreme 4 gen 3
and an SSD for boot and HDD for storage of course
also 800 dollars is a tough budget for a gaming/recording pc.

PSU is a little overkill but I plan on adding a second W3680 come my next paycheck.
P.S. this isn't for gaming, it's a workstation, most relevant thread I could find to post specs.

keyboard: cheap wired rosewill - smallest you can get that still has a number pad
speakers: cheap 2.0 that has a powered sub
headset: logitech g330 - had to repair with super glue and duct tape twice
I don't like mechanical keyboards because of all the clickety clackety and the weight. I don't have space for a proper desk so I have to lean back with keyboard on my lap.
A great site to go to find parts is pcpartpicker as it will compare from all the major pc part sites and find you the best deal.
recording video games is very intensive on your hardware. He will need a good intel core i5 quad or better and a really good graphics card to maintain a good fps. The video files created will also take up a lot of space.

I'd change that 660ti to a 760 because the 760 cost less but has the same performance (or more).
