Getting the wrong end of a conversation

Was there ever a time where you walked in a room while someone was talking about something strange/disgusting? If so, what did you do afterwards?
(Ex: You're at a formal party and two people are deep in a conversation about sex, and you step in right when they start talking about what they did in bed as you are going to grab something from the snack tray. Do you secretly stay and listen? Do you try to try to ignore them and walk away?)

I was walking up to a group of friends while they were huddled together at a table at my college library. And right when I walked up to say hi all I hear is, 'Dude next time I'm gonna spit on her a little bit and pour wax on her back and ram it in her hard,'
It got real quiet and I quickly redirected myself to right back out before they could see me.

Usually If I hear something that boggles me when approaching friends. I say "What the fuck did I just walk into?" Out loud.

I've walked into the room lots of times when my friends were talking about sex.. i sit there and stare at them, they go silent.. then i go 'the fuck was going on here?'
Other times, i have my headphones on (pc is in the loungeroom) and take them off when the girls are in deep conversation, and i hear the arse end and am usually like 'wait, so who did what to who? and what made them pregnant?' fun times

I'm really awkward in these situations. I always react strangely because my body does whatever it feels like until my brain catches up.
I walked into the bathroom and two girls (one which I didn't like very much) were standing just a few feet from the door, with the one I don't like crying. Granted, they shouldn't have been standing right in front of the door. But I stood there for about 5 seconds staring, opened my mouth, and then turned around all awkwardly and ran out the door.
I still had to pee tho : |

I have a lot of experience when it comes to walking in on the end of a conversation. In that type of situation, you have a few options:
#1 Ignore it
#2 Say something to make it seem like you know what's up, even though you don't.
#3 Cut in with enough confidence so that people think what you're talking about is what they should be talking about.
Human interaction is a game and the first 2 options are basic strategies. #3 is slightly more complicated. People believe in whatever they want, but if they encounter someone with strong convictions, they'll follow them anywhere.

Never in real life actually, but I have online. Skype voice chat can be a horrible thing I suppose. I generally don't join voice chats anymore, let's people have an easy way to talk about others. I don't care what they say about me, but that doesn't mean I care to hear it either.

I remember 3 years ago, this girl from the other section was suddenly being really rude and I thought she was talking to me, so I said something extremely rude to her and she went quiet. Turns out, she was talking to the person behind me... Yep. I walked in at a bad time. It was in front of 2 whole sections.
