Bumping this 2 year old thread with new information. Google has announced at this year's I/O a set of notebooks that will run Chrome OS by default.

this is pretty cool, but why call it an OS if everything will be put on the internet. Isnt the whole point of having an out giving you various uses for your computer. Its impossible for something to stay so stable. If everyone uses this chrome OS the internet will sure be overloaded with full of useless shit. Nonetheless bringing this chrome OS to a fail with tons of wasted space on the internet. There hasnt been anything wrong with using the computer normally.
EDIT: but still this is pretty good in a way.
EDIT 2: So basically i did some research and found out that its more like becoming a mac since google is manufacturing their own computer with this so called Chrome OS http://www.google.com/chromebook/

Also, no. Google is not making the hardware. They're contracting other companies such as Samsung to make them.

Until there are incentives for using this type of software (of which I am sure there will be in time), I don't think it will catch on. In addition, the shorter boot time (and perhaps power savings) isn't enough to warrant the lack in functionality that you get using Chrome OS. Every major operating system out there can do what Chrome OS does and more. That's the problem I see facing this new type of operating system.
