Hancock

The ground breaking, while an interesting effect, probably would have been better spent on either writers or a director who wouldn't take something with so much potential and knee cap it the way they did. To begin with, the movie was too short to do any kind of justice to the origin story they hatched up. It was clearly not thought through very well or executed well because the weakening from being in proximity to each other was only in effect for dramatic purposes only. It was like a negative deus ex machana: do whatever is the least convent and stupidest in lieu of actually thinking this plot device out. And the time in prison had good points, but some of it was... about as well thought out as the whole origin story and weakness plot. A bunch of cons trying to take on a guy half of them have seen be immune to bullets, lift really heavy shit, fly, and god knows what else? Apparently all cons in this world are so dumb, it's a miracle they can breathe. Then there's the head shoving. While hilarious, the guy on the receiving end should have bled out, even if someone took the other guys head out before he suffocated. And why didn't Handcock an few more charges added for that? Why is it no one tried to make a friend out of him in prison (convert the reluctant hero into a member of your team is a tempting thought for someone with a scheming mind), and why were there no concealing sessions (group therapy is fine and all, but surely they would also have scheduled one on one sessions as well with someone so obviously off but not intentionally dangerous). Why did no one in the government ever try to reach out to him and help him to train in 80 years of breaking crap while amaturing his way through helping? If nothing else, the government should have given him someplace to stay and not have a thing to worry about *just* to avoid the damage. Honestly, as damaging as he was, I don't see why the military didn't 'accidentally' detonate a nuke near his home and claim the yield was way better than they hoped for.

This was just horribly written and was executed by it's own team. It's like someone came up with an idea for a solid trilogy (first film turning himself around and maybe a hint about his origin from archeology site; second film establishing a villain and true hero status, as well as more of the origin, first noticing of weakness when in proximity of counterpart dismissed as possibly loosing power; third film villain deduces weakness and uses it against him, origin disclosed in full and choice to live apart to continue protecting people. Film ends with introduction of new love interest), and then they decided to cram it together and not think too much. A real shame because they had such a good cast and a lot of potential.
