Hard disk is corrupt or unreadable!
0
Gambler is only human and would require some advice on solving the problem listed below.
My external hard disk was in the midst of autorun when it hung halfway. After re-adjusting the USB cable, the drive was detected. I managed to transfer an anime file over to the hard disk, but when I tried opening it, there was some error. Thinking it to be a problem with my classic media player, I restarted my laptop with the hard disk still attached.
After the restart, I am now unable to access my hard disk drive. The error message: "G:/ is inaccessible. Hard disk is corrupt or unreadable."
Is there any way to solve the problem? I read elsewhere that data recovery software may be an alternative solution. If so, can anyone recommend any?
My external hard disk is 80GB in size. It is mostly filled with work data, anime, music and of course, precious pron.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hard disk corruption is usually a hopeless issue. The best you could do is try chkdsk /r and hope your drive works after that.

Since I am not really IT savvy, may I ask how should I go about doing this chkdsk/ r?
I right-clicked on my hard disk icon and under the tools tab, I attempted to use the check for error function, but it did not work. For some reason, my hard disk has a space of 0 btyes too...

You would perform this in command prompt.
1.) Start -> Run -> cmd
2.) chkdsk <drivename> /r
Where <drivename> is C:, or D:, or G:, depending on which drive you want to check.
