My family frequently tells me that I'm an adult now, so I should be focusing on work/studies and not on anime. Most of the time, I ignore them or just tell them that it's a hobby that will not devour my life - but my older sister constantly mocks me by calling me an otaku or "fanboy weeaboo".
When I counter with her choice of obsession, she claims that "it's not anime, so I'm not an otaku". Discounting the fact that she was obsessed with anime just a few years back, I end the conversation and ignore her.

Not made fun of from liking anime as a whole, but I have been made fun of and shunned for not liking Naruto, specifically not liking SasuNaru stuff. I remind you that this was when I was about 13, and my friends got made at me because I didn't like that stupid pairing and the show in general. That was horrible and they made me feel like an outcast for about a year.
I just dealt with it by reading, writing, and I kept buying my own manga while they had to rent theirs from the library.

Something similar happened to me. Way back in high school.
The anime fans were all like "OMG INUYASHA AND NARUTO" and shunned anyone who didn't like them.
Met some douchebag who I guess you can call a friend who said "DURR IF YOU DONT LIKE VAMPIRE HUNTER D YOU ARE A FAG" and always loves to bash on famous stuff and was a total hipster asshole.
Then came a bitch who literally said "if you dont like what I like, it just shows you have bad taste and are a poor soul"

Exactly. It was all the mainstream stuff that people were into that you would see at toonami and adult swim, and while I did watch that stuff I wasn't insane about it, and that made me shunned from other fans of anime! I just didn't understand at that age.

No, most of my friends still watch/read. Just not as intense as I do.

I've been mocked once, in a very insulting way, in front of other people. Considering who that person was, and considering who I am, I pulled him close and had a one-minute monologue in his face, ruining that guy's life in front of everyone else. My seriousness was a bit awkward for the others, but I got the dude to leave right after and he's been keeping his head really low whenever he saw me afterwards, haha.
