Have you ever fallen in love with a character from an anime?

I'm totally serious when I ask this, because after my girlfriend broke up with me, I drowned my sorrows in Shakugan no Shana, and fell in love with Shana.

There's a difference between having a strong admiration for the character, and actually falling in love. What you have here is you probably confusing the two. You like the character, a lot. So much so, that you probably wish she were real. Many of us can relate to that. However, you're not about to marry your Shana wallscroll (least I would hope not).
That being said, no. I have not fallen in actual love for an anime character, though I do wish some were real.

Many people will deny this quickly.
Falling in love with a charater in an anime is no different from falling in love with someone online, or gives you love letters secret during school, or with a book, or even a tv show you grew up as a child.
These are consider unheathly indeed...
However that is what love is
An unheathly attachement to something and someone greater then yourself.
Going to quote from a good friend of mine.
"Love is the most selfish emotion we have, however it is also a selfish emotion we can live on with no regrets"

I have never had feelings for any anime character, though I have wished I could be with many of them (would be sooooo awesome if some of them could come to life )

Admiration love? Yes, we all do. Falling in love? No, it reminds me of those guys out there marrying their pillows which is either extremely courageous or creepy.
Whenever I watch anime with my favorite characters, I always wanted to be part of it and in that kind of world.

Japanese guy marries NDS character? Like in this article; I personally find it kinda overboard, but I guess each people got different choices.
And I can't deny I've got some kind of love and admiration for anime or 2D character since I'm playing waifu game too lol XD.

Rams, its long distance relationships usually don't work.
Who knows, this love affair between Sounnga and Shana might work if he invests enough time into it and get enough Shana goodies

Alas if I had and could i would
But love between me living in the 3D world and someone in the 2D world would prove too difficult.
Chances are its only temporary and you would move on to the next female tsundere loli that comes by.

This is funny....
Because I am willing to bet every single one of you would say out loud - I love Anime... So.... you can love a genre, but not specific characters? And if you do.. what then? Someone calls you stupid for feeling something inside yourself?
I know I love certain characters. There, I said it. On some alternate plane of existence I wish I could actually be with them, share in their adventures, be friends with them. but I also have at least some small grip on my own reality and know this is just my imagination.
To me, love is allowing myself to feel the emotions it doesn't really matter if what causes the emotions. It could be a cute puppy, a beautiful place, the smell of fresh baked cookies.. and in this case, it happens when I experience my favorite character.

I've longed for certain characters before but I don't think I've ever really fallen in love because they can't love you back. In fact she's not even aware of my existence. That's why I think its weird how some people try to marry fictional characters because the character can't give her consent. (this doesn't apply to the waifu game because my understanding is that's just a game, I'm new here at fakku! so maybe I'm wrong) So yes I have definitely had a crush on anime characters but it can't be satisfying because they can't love you back or even acknowledge you what so ever.

I have fallen in love with an anime character, it may seem weird because it's basically me loving something that's not real. Loving an anime character is like taking an escape route from reality, sure, it's not healthy at times but if it makes someone happy then why not? I actually devoted my self to this character, to the point where I just give up on real women. That being said, I'm no fat slob, lazy person, or homeless person.
They can love you back, it just has to be a delusion.
That basically means we're all loonies but oh well, while you deal with your (ADACHI: B&Ws), we'll be with our waifus having a fantastic time.
