I don't really understand why anyone considered this movie more than okay or decent. I spent most of the time being annoyed at how they could have made things better so very easily, along with the irritation of the script essentially just being a string of cliches put together.

First two mecha fight scenes were pretty shit too. Poor choice of colors (of subjects, surroundings and background), rubbish camera (way too zoomed in a lot of the time and a lot of unnecessary cutting to different angles for a messy experience) and very little sense of impact from the blows landed. The two final fights were brilliant. Suddenly, they knew how to use colors to make things pop properly, the camera zoom and angles weren't shit and they didn't needlessly cut from angle to angle. Would surprise me if the early fights and the late fights were done by the same people, actually.

A lot of action scenes on foot were just forced in there for no good reason. Your unique selling point is having giant robots fighting giant monsters. Spend time on that instead of making the kind of rubbish action scenes you see in movies without giant robots. They need the "fix the broken gadget" or "defuse the bomb" scenes because that's what they can have in their particular setting. We have giant robots here, people. Use them.

We really just have a cast of five people getting proper screen time with three more supporting. Five of the actors that I would've loved to have seen more of got very little screen time, very little story and almost no lines. Another wasted opportunity. Also, I'm getting very very tired of movies trying to keep the tension high at all times. That really diminishes the effect of scenes where you're supposed to have that extra high tension. Let us relax a bit from time to time.

I found the monster designs to be fairly shit, but that's more on me than my complaints above. The monster in THAT fight. You know, the greatest fight in the movie? That monster was great. Rest of 'em? Meh. Mecha designs were really, really good though. Just wish a few more Jaegers had additional fighting scenes. And that the chest-mounted rocket launcher on that one Jaeger didn't look so rubbish...

Fairly mediocre experience. I think it would've benefited from a different format. Like a plot built into three one-hour short movies instead of a long 131 minute one. Would've given the characters a chance to be more fleshed out and less flat. Still happy about a big movie with giant robots in it. And for all of you who claim to love giant robots, but have only watched a bit of Evangelion and TTGL - You're the equivalent of that guy who says he LOVES band x, but has only heard the two or three songs from their latest album that get played on the radio or a virgin who loves to have sex. Or in terms more easy to grasp - the kid who says he loves anime and has really just watched Dragonball Z as a kid. It gets a bit insufferable.

I haven't watched the movie yet, but is it really so good that it justifies that there is no option to say you watched it and didn't like it?

I keep hearing Jaeger and it automatically makes me thing of Attack on Titan because of Eren's name...

I accidentally saw a trailer on TV and instantly rage quit after realizing they shoehorned in Ellen McLain as some generic AI announcer or whatever.

I guess I'm way too much of a GLaDOS fan to tolerate this heresy. And the voice of GLaDOS deserves nothing less than being a sinister, murderous, witty, and overly sarcastic AI obsessed with science... and cake. :P

It's essentially a B movie on steroids. Visuals carried it, story was meh.

I'd put it between okay and amazing with it leaning a little toward okay.

If you're looking for an emotionally deep, thought provoking movie, this ain't it. If you're looking for awesome robot vs monster action, then you came to the right place.

I guess I'm the odd man out when it comes to this movie, because I think it was pretty damn bad, not to mention boring. The plot holes and the just general stupidity from several of the characters didn't help either.

The fight scenes where good though.

I like reading the comments of people saying it sucks but they didn't bother to see it.

Anyways, It was an extremely fun movie, but that MAY be my bias as I grew up watching Godzilla films. The story wasn't the best but it held together in it's own right. Some of the characters were cliche, but honestly that gave it a charm that reminded me of the old monster movies. What really made this movie was the action sequences. Well done and not too fast paced. Compare it to the action sequences of any other movie this year (where if you blink you miss it) you'll find Pacific Rims more satisfactory. It could have easily been done by guys in costumes and that gave it a strong appeal to old school monster fans.

I give it a 7.5/10, round to an 8 if you are a fan of big monster movies. Ticket prices should really be the ONLY deterrent to seeing this in theaters, otherwise this is a very fun summer movie (although its almost fall now so.....)

And who ever decided to put the dedication to Ray Harryhausen and Ishiro Honda at the end, I want to fucking salute him.
