Help!
What should we name our catering business?
0
My friend and i are starting a catering business and cannot decide on a name. We have many options but have no idea which one will seem the best to potential customers. Since both of us are members of Fakku we decided to put to a forum vote. Your help is much appreciated.
I figured this was worthy of food and cooking because we want it to be appealing to the senses and inspire ideas of flavor.

prestige catering makes me chuckle cause i think of prestige international or whatever it was in step brothers
but sunny side catering is catchy (SSC) but maybe use both of ur names unless u plan on selling the business sometime in the future
or u can combine two names and be like Sun-Sational Catering and have ur logo be a sun

sunny side sounds good to hear,
moreover it seems like I'm imagining picnic time and lunch when I hear it.

Have fun losing money.
Also haven't you ever heard never go into business with your friends
"It’s often true that friends who go into business together don’t remain friends. And they don’t make it as partners, either!
Now, business partners may become friends. It just seems that, when friends become business partners, the friendship and the business often suffer.
If you still think it’s a good idea to go into business with a friend, here’s a suggestion. Except you shouldn’t think of it as just a suggestion. You should view it as something you absolutely have to do before you launch the business with your friend.
A business partnership is like a marriage. You need a pre-nuptial agreement."
Also if you do open it up, and you need a cook I would love to move.

I think before I vote on a name I need to know what kind of food you're cooking. A sample menu would be cool~

Also do you have a building fully stocked with supplies? Make sure you buy your stoves and appliances used.

Yes, we have all of our supplies covered, the company was passed from my friend's dad to him and came with all the basic supplies we needed. the reason he passed it down is because he had let it lapse and didn't have time for it anymore in his retirement.
We already have contracts to do some monthly dinners for a couple of organizations but we want to expand.
Also, our basic menu is this (copying the images in because i don't have the files on this computer):
however we take special requests and will design a custom menu for any customer.
Thank you for your input so far.

It looks like there's a lot of Italian food on there so maybe a name that reflects that wouldn't be a bad idea. I think it would be a good idea to expand your menu to include other cultural dishes like Greek, Spanish, English... things like that just to make it more balanced. People tend to be a bit more adventurous these days with what they eat so I don't think it'd be a bad idea, at least to try it out. That is, if the dishes can be done in a traditional manner and not Americanized.
Menu looks good to start, though.

Like Nikon said if you add more cultural dishes that can boost business, also you can add something on your options like "Around The World" putting a little bit from all over the world through out the meal. Also do you plan on doing a tasting menu for your business?

I would most definitely include a tasting menu; that's an amazing idea. Make sure everything on it (as well as everything you cook, of course) is 100% amazing.
I'm saying this as a former chef and foodservice pro, so please don't think I'm just nagging and talking out of my ass or anything. lol.

I made this topic for exactly this, i'm looking for all the feedback i can get so it is quite welcome.
I had forgotten to add that we have our own portable deep fryer so we do events where people can bring their own food and we fry it for a nominal fee. We also do novelties like deep fried candy bars, and oreos as well as barbeque sides like deep fried pickles.
A tasting menu sounds great, i hadn't thought of that. I'll definitely start working some stuff up along that line.

Do you plan on serving alcohol? Cause you'll need a license (which can be expensive). Also check if your are in one of the 30 states that has alcohol server training (dependent on where you are at it is mandatory, or voluntary.

Also if you don't have a ServSave certification you should really get one for you and all of the people working for/with you. Even if it's not required for food-handling in your state, it'll just make you guys look better.

As for the "Around The World" idea, that is actually pretty good. What you could do is have maybe a bi-weekly menu change (as a separate/menu) section, for example: Mexican, Turkish, Chinese, Italian for two weeks, then you change it to Middle Eastern, American, Japanese etc. It doesn't have to be 4, but you could have just one really nice dish from one country, and then swap it every two weeks or so that way you have change and you are culturally diverse. Kind of like a "soup of the day" but it's a different set of meals that changes every once in a bit.
