Hip-hop Today Vs. 90's rap

Well from the title you can probably infer that this is about hip-hop, from the 90's to taday, first of i wanna clear one thing up, dont confuse crunk with hip-hop, they are similar but not the same. crunk music is stuff like lil jon, or soulja boy, its music made to get crunk to concentrating less on lyrics and more on the beat, 808. any way there are to artist i want to compare first they are drake (who many refer to as the new fresh prince) and Will Smith,
The reason i like drake so much is that when he raps he usually dont talk about hood shit, drake is smooth and very articulate, i think he is something fresh that the game has been needing for a long long time. i can easily see how people compare him to will.

Never been a fan of hip-hop music. But I do like some of it today. So my say is Hip-hop today is way much better when it comes to beats and rhythm. But when it comes to lyrics I go for the 90's.

Being older, hip-hop to me was when it had a message to proclaim about urban problems and injustices (De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy).
Today I find hip-hop is just guys singing either about how much they want to f*ck, how tough they think they are, or how they're just great. IMO the vast majority is just arrogant babble.

Anyway, I love rap music and old school is my favorite. Nowadays, hip-hop is not music for black or white, even not for the poor or the underdog. I love N.W.A,ICE-T,RUN-DMC...and more. I love NAS because his lyrics is critical. However, hipa is a business now. Jay-Z, for instance, is the one of the most successful pop-rapper. I like Black-album, Blueprint, but, something is missing...
Hip-hop has good capability to absorb other forms of music such as Rock, R&B, JAZZ....but , for me, I don't want it become part of pop music.

I was gonna say this but thank you for already saying. I like indie rappers but not the popular ones. Come on, can you at least make a better rhyme scheme than that?

If only more people would follow the Commandments according to Dan Le Sac and scoobius Pip (although they aren't actually hip-hop artists; Scoobius Pip is a character from Sasha Baron Cohen (a.k.a. Borat).

90's Hip-hop is better!
The lyrics had meaning.
current hip-hop today only has good beats, the lyrics never have any real meaning, or something to teach anyone besides dance-moves or steal money or other bull-crap...
I will take 90's over current any day!

I never liked rap or hip-hop, but 90's rap is so much better than today's hip-hop. 80s and 90s rap and hip-hop had meaning in their lyrics. Today's rap and hip-hop is about sex, women, and money, or the lyrics are just totally random. For example, I've Got a Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas has lyrics that have no meaning at all (LISTEN TO THE LYRICS).
