How can an atheist believe we rot in the ground after death?

Actually you should let people believe what the want, if it's nothing going in the direction of rassism and some extreme things you're good to go. But other than that.. i think this should go in serious discussion not in random where it goes down a bit.
Note:
This Thread Title is actually picking on atheist.. don't know if thats good.

Can you show me where God is encoded in our DNA?Also I like the "Atheists bring science" part. Cause science is always wrong and has no actual truth behind it.
Troll or uneducated? Pick one.
It's called being sarcastic.
Why the fuck are you new people so dumb?
"If atheists believe if hell is just fantasy, why don't they just kill themselves? Or do they?"
Are you trying to say that Christians don't commit suicide or people who believe in a heaven or hell?

ha ha; you made me laugh
I agree with you!
Although i'm wondering more on a psychological level how atheists can not believe in an afterlife, to just go "blank". It sounds depressing -_-
Although i guess it would make you appreciate life more

I'm athiest because i believe humans work like machines, we're comprised of many components that work together to complete tasks, malfunctions occur when we recieve damage or if their was a manufacturing error.I think like machines, when we die we just can no longer compute. the power source is gone but unlike machines another piece wont return life...
That was an incredibly convoluted way of pointing out the obvious.

Science, has proven that the word "god" is hard encoded into our dnaSource?

Because I don't care. Way to contribute absolutely fucking nothing to the discussion. Users like you are worse then bad, they're useless.
To answer the question presented by the OP:
Whether there's an after life or not is not something I'm going to dwell on because I won't know jack shit till I'm dead. What I'm saying here is that there's little point in pondering about something you can't do anything about.
Arent you just as bad as the third person you quoted, you didnt contribute, you just stated your opinions of our contributions...I wouldnt know if Im pointing out the obvious because i dont know how others think, nor do i know their perspectives...
Hurr durr reading comprehension. My opinion on the subject is my contribution. Fluttershy said fucking nothing about the topic, his post might as well have not been there in the first place for all the good it did.

It's disappointing that it's year 2012 and people still question the afterlife.People still cling to the bible and other things, despite being proven to be invalid.
The Earth is not 6,000 years old. And why would an omnipotent being wait billions upon billions of years watching the earth change, and us evolve only then to give us a soul?
Also, since evolution has been proven, then Adam & Eve could not have happened. Which would mean that Eve could not have commit the "original sin" and since eve didn't commit the original sin, jesus's death would've been in vain, and after that everything is just a load of contradictions. (if it wasn't already)
Not a single person that believed in an afterlife, was able to convince me that he wasn't just playing the guessing game.
If there's a single one of you that believes in the afterlife/god, please do reply to this post and try to give me an actual reason to believe that one exists.
Also don't bother trying to use anything from the bible, it shows that you gave up.
To the people who said things like "you can only know when you die" what makes you say that? You would have to be delusional and believe in supernatural crap to even assume that. People who say things like that, are slightly believing the story of an afterlife.
If we twist the words a bit we can change our sentence to "you can only know if leprechauns exist, is by seeing one." When you die, it's game over, there's no knowing, just dying.
We have evidence of what happens when you die, there is no evidence supporting the afterlife or anything related to it. How can you be so sure that you don't know everything when it comes to something? If I dropped something would you only assume that's evidence of gravity, but doesn't actually prove that gravity is real?
With that said, when someone is shot in the heart, and their body stops working, would you only assume that's evidence of dying, but doesn't actually prove that the person is dead for good?

I don't see how else you want us to word it for you, no matter how detailed an answer is, you would still repeat the question and talk about how you don't understand. Don't ask the question if you don't want the answer. If people like you put even the slightest thought into why there is no afterlife, you would stop believing in it on the spot.
I can confirm that you're not giving it any real thought, seeing as how you generalized atheists. When tons of Japanese people believe in an afterlife DESPITE being atheist. There is nothing, and I mean nothing shown that should make you even assume that there is an afterlife. There is no evidence or anything. But what we do have is evidence of us dying and the brain not working anymore. When someone gets shot in the heart, do you see a soul come out their body? No, but you do see them die and stop moving
Also to the person who said this should go in serious discussion. How can you make a serious discussion with people who haven't educated their selves on the basic definition of a word that you can teach a kid.
Never in my entire life have I seen someone make a really good point about topics like the afterlife and god, and all this other supernatural nonsense.
Also @Longevity My question was "Troll or uneducated? pick one" Using sarcasm on the internet to make fun of a group, could be considered trolling. What's even more cool is you threw a baseless assertion (obscenity might I add) at me in response of my provocation. I would say by definition you're an ignoramus.
Also, new account does not mean "new person" but I guess I couldn't expect any more from the ignorant.

Well, it would seem that the major speaking points have been covered, and I won't do the long and drawn out process of getting multiple quotes because honestly it isn't worth the investment in time (since I'm on a phone the process is exceedingly tedious). Suffice to say, our brains are incredible biological computers with countless processors (each neuron can act as a processor which is at the very least more complicated than transistor processors), but when I remove the functionality of a processor it simply ceases to continue on. To suppose, and with no evidence no less, that they would continue their computations in some ethereal realm is, frankly silly. When the brain fails, cognitive function ceases. That is what is known. Adding superfluous elements is a waste of time, it's just squaring the circle. Johannes Kepler had models of the solar system which fit the evidence, but overreached himself in trying too hard to match the celestial order with perfect geometry, he was wrong and corrected himself using the potent razor of a Ockham. If we are to have any scholarly integrity we must ourselves make use of the simple logic that seems to have eluded even the greatest theologically inclined thinkers, simplicity is elegance, and it seems to be good logic. If anyone was considering referencing Douglas Wilson in stating that when asked why anyone should trust reason is utilizing circular logic in using reason to justify itself, but if that is so justifying faith by logic is oxymoronic, and justifying faith by faith is just as circular. That's to say very little about the burden of proof, evidence contrary and of the competing theories regarding the same. The only justifiable stance is that though I cannot be certain that there is no afterlife, neither can anyone, therefore just as with sasquatch and the Loch Ness monster, tending to doubt and live as though there weren't is more justifiable (absence of evidence may not constitute evidence of absence, but it lends no credibility to a claim in the affirmative). Care to disagree, please do so respectfully, visit the thread in my signature if you would like to explore this or other matters further.
Again, I ask for an open discussion or debate, the rep isn't my issue, if you don't like what I said, or have a solid case against it at least give me a rebuttal rather than simply disagreeing without expanding on the why of it. At least PM me why you disagree, if you have a solid point then I'll consider it seriously and you may win me over Take away however much rep you like, just give me the courtesy of an explanation.

As a staunch athiest I must say I believe after death the nitrogens, carbons, oxygens, and other elements that formed my body returns to the earth. I believe the conciouness, or soul, just disspears at death.

I'd rather just face the reality that I will die someday rather than believe some made up story just to make me feel better. Sure it's depressing but that's just life. Or should I say ''that's just death''?
