how do you act around a narcissist?

really.... i've known people who continually praise themselves.... and i have to admit.... they have the looks.... but their continuous praising and complimenting themselves really annoy me..... all the while i hear some like these lines....

'my how my beauty is incomparable!'
'you should be like me, absolutely wonderful and envy of all!'

well i really REALLY want to plant my fist in his face if he ever continues complimenting and loving his own self.....

Depends. Some narcissitsisis (sp) are a blast to be with. I have this friend who thought himself the greatest person in the world, and he was very loud about it, but he was brutally honest. Being with him was equally embarassing and hilarious.

The ones I don't like I ignore.

Well, I guess I just go along with it or give him some advice on how to stay true to his/her claims.

If its not someone I know, I see no reason to do anything - just as fatman said, just ignore

I literally would go up to them and say, would you seriously STFU, I'm tired of hearing about your fucking greatness.

"Yes, you beat me to it, I can never be much of a more bigger douchebag than you can."

Bad grammar aside, so do I. However, there are more tactful ways to approach the situation.

Sometimes narcissists are the way they are because they've never had an experience that would make them think otherwise, or they're psychologically unequipped to deal with reality. In situations like that, tact is necessary. You don't want someone to commit suicide simply because you made them realize they weren't the definition of epic. I can't say that I've dealt with "a lot" of narcissists, but I've dealt with a significant number. There are a lot of people, not just narcissists, that haven't been properly introduced to reality. For those people, the best you can do is expose them to "truth in moderation."

If they are assholes about it and continue to believe they're the greatest thing in the history of things, that's when you are obligated to beat the living shit out of them with the first blunt object you can grab.

It really depends on the narcissist and my mood but usally i just deal with it.

I just let someone else dscribe their probem to them, I usually laugh at the results =3

I act like it for the boost in self-confidence.
I mean, I don't do it to the point where people hate me for it.

EX: "Thomas, why are you so nice?"
"Because I'm The Phenomenal One, duh."

Simple shit like that.
I know I don't have the greatest body in the world, but I guess I'm tricking my mind into thinking I'm this ultra badass with the greatest personality in the world so I can talk to women alot easier than I would have years ago.
And if I was to ever feel like I'm going off-course with it, I would stop immediately.

I would wait until they finaly shut up about themselves, and i pick some random feature and make a comment. something like, 'i never noticed before but your nose is kind of big', or ears stick out or whatever. then hopefuly they get plastic surgery, and i can then say,'i liked the old whatever better'. but then again, i AM an asshole.

I must admit Im one of these narcissists I dont need to type out how awesome I am. hell Im on the best site on the net already. but in real life Im the greatest period.
