I love it.. zombies are the one mythical being it is impossible to pussify :) (exept from one anime I watched here the other day)

meh (or eh, as the question wants me to answer). I don't really like or hate it, and will consider watching zombie fiction if recommended.

Movies like Dawn of the dead and Resident evil are always good popcorn entertainment. But nowadays things are getting downhill.
And so is games like Dead Rising, where you can kill zombies in creative ways.
But Sankarea takes the price. It's an great anime, if you haven't watched it yet please do, you won't be disappointed.
To answer the question, It's not the best sub-genre, but it's very enjoyable to see zombies get killed.
I'm off to see Dawn of the dead (1978).

I fucking hate Zombies. They are so stupid. . . . Well, at least the American versions are. The only Zombies I like are Rea and Ayumu.

Well come on now, everyone has the 'zombie dream' of waking up somewhere with a few other people that specialize in somthing- then being told they are some of the few survivors in this zombie apocolypse and have to survive till they find a cure...or is that just me?

The zombie genre really isn't about the zombies- it's about people's reactions to them. Extra Credits explains it much better than I, so I'll give you a link.

On a tangent, the CDC put out a one issue comic that uses a zombie apocalypse as a metaphor for natural disasters. It's amusing, at the least.

Edit: Also, Sankarea is a great show. However, I wouldn't put it in the zombie genre. It uses a few tropes, but it's mostly a normal(ish) drama with some odd circumstances. (The zombies in Sankarea don't infect others, and they aren't hostile. Because of this, the reactions to them are mostly different.)
Anyway, watch that Extra Credits episode. It's good stuff.

I love me the zombie genre. zombies have always been popular and I can say with pride that my best mate and I have thought out complex AND REALISTIC plans of survival if an Apocalypse were to happen (during late night gaming sessions).
Some zombie anime like HOTD can be a bit OTT but the general idea of survival is really exciting, for me at least.
The thrill of fighting for your life using everything around you and surviving off instinct and skill.

interesting yes, but over done. Much like the pirate v ninja thing that was going on a few years back. Can't wait to see the next thing that will be over done.

Zombie is more scary as the fact that if you are injured by even the slightest of scratches, you're screwed. But as for the genre, it has become overplayed, too easy to identfy as an enemy and thus, not really great nowadays.

zombie stuff is pretty awesome.... whether it be hot like sankarea..... or survival type manga like HOTD. BTW, on the subject of HOTD, when is the actual start gonna be of the second season, or restarting, whatever you like to call it. For those of you who don't know, it seems like the author got a serious disease/ sickness...... hope he gets better soon to bring us the best of zombie again!

Meh. I love most genres the same. Zombies are fine in many cases. Resi is an example and anime wise well... HOTD was exaggerated but it was okay.

Not a big fan of zombie fiction. Seen enough to get paranoid of a zombie apocolypse I've not heard about when I lock the doors and windows.
