The zombie genre really isn't about the zombies- it's about people's reactions to them. Extra Credits explains it much better than I, so I'll give you a link.http://penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/zombies
On a tangent, the CDC put out a one issue comic that uses a zombie apocalypse as a metaphor for natural disasters. It's amusing, at the least.

Edit: Also, Sankarea is a great show. However, I wouldn't put it in the zombie genre. It uses a few tropes, but it's mostly a normal(ish) drama with some odd circumstances. (The zombies in Sankarea don't infect others, and they aren't hostile. Because of this, the reactions to them are mostly different.)
Anyway, watch that Extra Credits episode. It's good stuff.
NOT TRUE! If you kept up with the manga (which I don't think you read it even), you would know that

Not gonna spoil anymore, go read.

While I do actually enjoy the zombie genre, unfortunately everyone is jumping on the bandwagon right now.
Honestly I probably just enjoy the idea of society crumbling down more than anything.

Well come on now, everyone has the 'zombie dream' of waking up somewhere with a few other people that specialize in somthing- then being told they are some of the few survivors in this zombie apocolypse and have to survive till they find a cure...or is that just me?Totally agree with you... I like to think sometimes that I'm the badass with the shotgun that has to kill one of the infected teammates, but, knowing me, I'd probably be one of the insignificant deaths in the beginning of the apocalypse.
That awkward moment when you're not a main character in a horror genre/sub-genre movie..
yup... story of my life

It's not even a real spoiler and I don't even think there is a need to use a spoiler tag to cover anything up.... Ah whatever.
EDIT: Done and done.

i blame High school of the dead, Walking Dead, and Sankarea for them executing the concept to a somewhat enjoyable degree.

funny you should mention walking dead. i had a few issues to them as being able to sense you(there are some scenes here and there) and no added strength(again some scenes show zombies being as weak as a normal human) the series just looked like prissy people trying to get away from drunk ppl =/ at least, to me that is
going back on topic, i don't hate them. it depends on the setting i suppose, if it's just a "virus that makes the dead come back to life" scenario, i'd like the story to stick to it and never to pull off MEGA ZOMBIES when the time duration is terribly clashing. it takes a while for the virus to either die out or to get stronger. and no, super virus and such would go the same way it develops or extinguish. it can't get stronger without it realizing that it needs to feed on decayed flesh.
that's about it for me and zombies. just as long it doesn't involve pop-up boss monsters on ep. 5 or 10 without the story saying that it has been 3/50 years since the infection, i can enjoy a zombie genre

Not scientifically sound? You make a poll about the scientific plausibility of a story, knowing full well that it's fictional?
Might as well criticize fantasy fiction because there's no proof of dragons ever existing.
Or half the hentai out there because tentacle monsters don't make biological sense, and black magic has no scientific backing.
Or even space travel fiction because scientifically nothing can travel fast than the speed of light.
To be honest I enjoy myself a bit of zombie fiction, and what really gets me is the amount of diversity between the different kinds. You can have slow walking zombies, fast walking zombies, dumb zombies, intelligent zombies, you can diversify how infection happens from government conspiracy to a science project gone horribly wrong.
Diversity in stories adds to its entertainment value. So what if zombies aren't realistic? No fiction is COMPLETELY realistic.

Why zombies may be a real thing.
Why, even if they were, it would fail quickly.
And, just for flavor, why I, and others, would still want it to happen.
Enjoy.

I greatly enjoy the zombie apocalyse subgenre for two primary reasons. The first is, of course, the allure of a never ending super killfest where morality gets tossed aside and my only limitations are how many explosives I can cobble together and whether or not that katana is show or performance quality.Fighting a zombie with a Katana?
How will you NOT get infected when you get drenched in their blood?
Am I ingesting the blood? No? Is it falling into a collection of open wounds, sores, etc? No? Then I'll be fine. Zombieoism (Zombality if you prefer) is caused by a virus, and since it clearly isn't airborne (That would kill everyone), it must be caused by direct liquid transfer. So if their blood doesn't get in my body, I'll be just fine.

All it takes is having one tiny too small to see scrape or a sore. It doesn't have to be a large gaping wound.
And unless you are wearing a gas mask you WILL ingest some of that blood that is splattering your face.
It might not be airborne but that is no justification to practically bathe in the blood of the infected.
Now, if you are going to wear a full face gasmask and and a biohazard suite... well knock yourself out (just don't get scratched or bit.)

That all depends upon your definition of "zombie". What I'm thinking of is the Solanum (I think that's what they're called) zombies from Max Brooks' "The Zombie Apocalypse Survival Guide". Their entire bodies are atrophied with the exception of the brain; there is no blood flow, and thus, their blood has virtually turned to pudding in their veins. As I'd be chopping their heads off at the neck, my biggest worry would be the blade possible getting caught in one of the vertebrae.

Even if it turned into pudding it can still splatter. And if it has a harder consistency then you can breath the dust.
That being said, it would be better then regular old highly liquid infected blood.

Well, i always like it.
Hate it for the predictable story. Dies. Desperate. Found another. Cure. Impossible cure. Another hope-seeking missions that causes another victims.
So far The Last of Us is the most unique zombie fiction i have ever known/played/watched.

It's alright. I watched World War Z a few hours ago and it was surprisingly original. It had some really innovative elements. On the other hand, Zombieland was pretty funny and by far one of the best books I've ever read was Star Wars: Death Troopers. That book combines the Star Wars universe with zombies perfectly. I've read it many times. I seriously recommend that book to anyone with a Star Wars or zombie interest.
