How do you get motivated to work?

My parents spoil me, but I don't use that as an excuse to not work. I wanted to be independent as soon as possible so I told my parents that I would join the military if I didn't get into college. My mom nearly fainted and my dad gave me one of his speeches why the military is a bad idea. 6 years later, I'm still in school and still living with my mom (I basically hijacked the living room). Its frustrating because I want to live on my own for once. Not much I can do except work and hope I finish school soon. Its taking 6+ years because I have a motivation problem. I'll start off strong, then I start losing steam as the months go by.

Motivation? having a job. it makes no difference whether you like it or not. if there is work to be done, and it's your job to do it, get the fuck to it. i hate having to work with whiney bitches and/or slackers.

get off the internet and get a job, dont rely on your parents forever. everyone dies someday. what would you do if they arent there anymore. plan ahead. this should be enough reason for your motivation to start working.

I'm having one of those hikikomori moments, or simply too lazy to go outside to work. Obviously there's the whole work to eat thing, but I get the luxury of knowing I can depend on my parents if I can't support myself. So, how the hell do you people suppose a guy can get off his ass? When I moved away from my parents I asked them for money all the time, because I spent all I got and couldnt pay the food. But nowdays if I have to ask my mother for money, even if its just 10 euros or so, I feel so fucking bad. Living with other peoples money isnt fun, especially if that other person isnt very rich her/himself.
So think about how your parents have to use their own money on you, even tho you're (most likely) 18 or older now and they dont legally have to take care of you anymore. So now you're just using them, taking advantage of their kindness. It would be a different thing, if you had no choise, but to live with their money, but now you're doing that just because you're lazy and cant get your ass up and get a job. Have you ever said to your parents that "I would get a job, but why should I? You're giving me money, so I dont need to"? What would they answer to that? How would they feel if they knew you're intentionally taking advantage of them?
I know it sounds harsh, but think about it. Next time you have to ask your parents for money, think about all those things. If you're a human being with feelings, you should start feeling bad for doing it. And thats a good reason to get a job.

Motiviation...... I would have to say, just getting out their at doing my damn job. I work for the facet of earning cash to provide for myself and my wants or desires and the eventual inclusion of a wife and children into my life.

Force yourself to go job hunting. Once you acquire a job, you'll have a lot more motivation to go since not going=lose your job.

I'm probably the laziest kid I know. The only time I go out anymore is to work, or to go to the local shop (where I work lol).
My parents would never kick me out, but I wouldn't really be able to face them if I didn't do anything. When I'm not at work I would clean the house just to keep them happy, then I can do anything I want without being nagged.

Sorry, what's that? Motivation? Boy, it is my Summer vacation, what do you mean motivation?
Anyway, I tend to think of things in the long run, now right now. That has always helped me to stay motivated, I think. It's easier to achieve your dreams if you have the future in mind.
Some wisdom:
Skipping a lecture on Non-Euclidean geometry to get a bj feels great, but when you're 10 years down the road and are made project manager of a huge architecture firm, you're screwed.
Think of the future.

I don't know about your age or usual living style... but I would suggest going out and hanging with other people.
When all of your friends have jobs and have money to spare, you will probably want to be able to afford the same lifestyle, and you will probably feel bad for not working to earn your share compared to other people.
When I was younger, my parents paid for most of my stuff. One of my best friends was two years older than me, and he had to pay for everything except food and lodging as soon as he turned 16. Hanging around with him made me stop relying on my parents progressively.
