According to some sources, the US already has troops stationed IN Libya, probably to capitalise on the unrest and ensure that the government will be amenable to US interests. But I think Europe should be more concerned. The EU is Libya's biggest customer for oil, and if SHTF the EU will have huge disruptions in oil supply.

Why? The most we're do is maybe no- fly the airspace so the govt couldn't bomb the protesters... if it become a civil war... then it's their fight not ours... unless some serious serious shit happen like mass murder or gassing... i doubt anyone going interfere with them fight each other.

Based on my understanding, wars between countries are launched when there are profits to be gained at the end of the war...Therefore, if the US government decide that the war with Libya is going to be profitable to world then it will occur...
On another note, since the political unrest in Libya began, the oil prices have been spiking again, so there is also the benefit of controlling the oil prices by engaging with the Libyan government, though it could be foolish...

It's not just the conflict in Libya that's causing the spike in oil prices. I'm thinking it has more to do with the fear that other major crude exporting countries will soon be witnessing a protest as well (like Saudi Arabia).
Regarding the 'No fly zone' policy, my guess is that will probably be the farthest the U.S. will go. War with Libya would be the last thing we would want in any situation.

Ruly unrestlessness and percieved fear of an escalating war between a failing, yet stubborn country and a shot-calling, civil discontented country will cause an upheaved confusion as to outside issues regarding gas prices, military prescence of the US troops and the stepdown of political individuals from Lybia's government.

I hope OP's prediction is wrong, but at the same time I find that concern quite legit. The US seems to have a hard time restraining itself from putting its dirty little fingers where they don't belong, regardless of the consequences.

lol David Cameron suggesting a no fly zone, and Gates telling him to fuck right off.
I'm waiting for Algeria to start protesting again so I can post 'Rock the Casbah' by the Clash. :3 Also:

I would love to see a no fly zone, and make sure someone gets video of our F-22 blowing them out of the sky without even being detected =D

Okay, let me give you some informations, from someone that lived there for almost 3 years.
First of all, the libyan people, even though they are at war with their government (dictatorship) hate the US, and any US intervention would hurt their pride, make them hate the occidental countries even more and maybe fire the light of islamism, which would be very bad at the dawn of a new regime.
So yes, I agree about a no fly zone, that would be ideal, but what we (and as we I mean, Europeans and US) want to avoid is another Irak, another Afghanistan. Especially since once again, the US only took action in a country full of oil.
About Kaddafi himself, I don't know if that was explained in the news, but I lived right in front of his "bunker", which is actually a gigantic military base lol (as big as a few stadiums they say, I would say about one third of the the town). First you have a wall about 6 meters tall, with miradors and barbed wires, as well as guards with automatic weapons. Inside, there's a no man's land of 15 -20 meters, all around the bunker, and after this no man's land, another wall, as guarded as the first one, even more I think. You have only one official entry (I don't know about the non official ones), just as guarded, and I think now it's inaccessible.
So, imagine a population of rebels, heavily armed yes, but still, untrained population, trying to invade such a fortress...I don't know if it's possible, I just hope he gets betrayed from the inside, and killed.
But I can't stand the hesitations of the international community, it's a shame. What they did in Kosovo worked perfectly fine, why wouldn't they apply it there? Why are they waiting for towns to fall in the hands of Kaddafi again?
So, let's hope the US doesn't go at war in Libya, it will only give more arguments to Kaddafi, justify his madness, and make him look like a martyr. That's what we should've learned from our mistakes with Saddam Hussein.

I doubt the U.S will since no one was happy about the invasion of Iraq. Though I think someone needs to stop Muammar Gaddafi, the guy is fuckin' crazy.

[font=Verdana][color=green]Oh, we all know that the US can't wait to start ANOTHER war with a country that's full of oil. You can just imagine it now;
"Oh, we're pulling all our troops out of the lost wars of Iraq and Afghanistan."
"Yay, you're finally acting on what you promised. Good for you."
"But we're sending them to fight against Libya, a war that, this time, we should win."
"FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU-"
Sure, Gaddafi is absolutely batshit crazy, but in all honesty, what other reason do the US have to start a war with them, apart from the oil? To save the oppressed citizens, like the World's Police force that they usually like to see themselves as? Don't make me laugh. If that truly were the case, they would've gone to Zimbabwe by now; it must be a complete coincidence that Zimbabwe is a poor nation?
