i5 core 2500k vs 3570k

What do you guys think is better for gaming and video editing? (mostly gaming)
I keep getting mix review of the 2.

The 3570k is a higher performance cpu but only marginally, the only real benefit of it is the HD4000 integrated graphics. If you plan on doing video editing then I would say get the 3570k, an I7 is much better for video editing, so if you plan on doing a lot of that I would get an I7. As for gaming, there wouldn't be any noticeable difference between the two.

The difference is pretty small, though obviously the 3570k will be just slightly better. I recommend that if you can find a 2500k thats sub $200, take it. If not there is no point in getting it, since normally its only $10 less.

They are essentially the same but the 3570K is newer and has a slightly higher stock clock speed. 3570 also has better integrated graphics and an updated quicksync but you may not even use either if you have a graphics card. If you are serious about overclocking it to the max I've heard the 2500 can go a little bit further. I have a 3570 overclocked to 4.2 (stock is 3.4) and it can easily go higher.
In the end you should probably get the 2500 because it can be used with older motherboards than the 3570 which should be cheaper. However some of those older motherboards may have a BIOS update to allow the 3570 to run on it so just do some research beforehand.

3570k runs quite a bit hotter than the 2500k I believe so on a budget cooler like the hyper 212 evo you wont be able to clock it as high as the 2500k
and I don't think the performance increase is actually all that much (even less so because you can clock the 2500k higher and probably get rid of any performance gap)

Ivy bridge cpus(3570k) also has a pci e 3.0 controller which makes it better for gaming since they can run gtx 600 series and hd 7000 series cards better than their sandy bridge cpus counterpart(2500k)(5-10% performance difference). Also hd 4000 vs hd 3000 is irrelevant. If you're getting a 3570k for gaming chances are you're getting a decent gpu as well.

No one should be going over 4.5 on a hyper 212 evo anyway.

If you can get a 2500k by 10-20% cheaper than 3570k then by all means go for it. Though if they're the same price then go for 3570k.

I shouldn't be going over 4.5 on a 212? i'm on 4.8 and it stays quite cool (I think after a few hours of p95 it gets to about 69 degrees (and I think intel says the maximum operating temperature is about 72-73 degrees (C that is) but under normal use it never goes over 65
in my circle of gaming friends at collage we find that the 2500k runs cooler than the 3570k (with the same cooling solutions we use arctic silver 5 or whatever it is called btw - although one guy uses some homemade diamond stuff that manages to drop his temperatures by about 2 degrees)

yeah... I went and got I5-3570k for $190 and a new AsRock Z77 Pro4 for $70

69 is the p95 temperatures
normal use (planet side 2, tera online, world of warcraft, crisis3, bioshock infinite etc) I said it never gets over 65

my computers tend to go through a rolling update process anyway in two years time I will most likely have a completely different cpu and motherboard in my main box and my secondary box will have the current cpu and motherboard only without the large overclock and whats in my secondary box will have been put into a third machine that I either keep or sell off to pay for the upgrades to the main machine

well originally I was gaming on a Pentium E6700 (overclocked to 3.96 ghz!) and second hand 275 I then upgraded to a 295 and had to buy a 1000 watt cougar psu (could have gone lower but I decided to get 1000 cause it should last me years) and then after repairing a computer for someone i know i sold my older brother my soon to come third computer in order to fund upgrading the main computer so the third computer could exist
i then recently brought a 7970 and sold the 295 to a friend for a £130 (putting the 295 into my second box would have meant i needed a more powerful PSU for it and that would have got expensive) so i now owe my dad £170 and then the day after it arrived a massive leak about an update to the tau codex appeared on the internets so i will not be able to buy a smexy riptide for a few months now :(
