In search for good music

I'm looking to try out a couple of bands. Recommend me your favorite bands/singers of any genre and I promise to look at every single artist mentioned in this thread.


I usually prefer alternative rock, folk rock, some heavy-metal and rap but they're specific. But honestly I'm ready to give anything a try. So blast me away with suggestions!

Nujabes

I already listen to Nujabes (have two of his albums).

Which ones? And have you heard all his albums?

Modal Soul and Metaphorical Music. + The Samurai Champloo Soundtrack.

But I rarely take more than two albums for an artist since I can't listen to the same style too much. There are exceptions though such as Radiohead but thats only due to their unique changing sound through their albums.

I've never heard of someone doing that before, you're missing out on a lot of music then but I guess that's just how you do it.

Nujabes is like that though, no two songs sound the same and you can never expect what you're going to hear when you click on a new track of his. Spiritual State is worth a listen. And have you heard every part of Luv (sic.)?

Ever heard of The Weakerthans? Really nice post-punk and folk sounds with crazy ass lyrics. I think you'll like them.

I've heard 2 parts of Luv Sic and I'll give spiritual state a try.




I will try them out, any good starting points with the band?

You should check out DJ Okawari if you like Nujabes.




Although I think he's inferior compared to Nujabes. Okawari has some lame bass and transitions on his songs.

DJ Shadow is another guy I should mention. But he emphasizes more on hip hop than jazz. I think one album from him is in the list above.

You should check out their 4th album, Reconstruction Site. Might be a bit too poppy for your tastes...

BTW I think think this could be a great music reccomendation thread. Someone could post clips of what he/shes looking for and someone could reccomend. Maybe even advertise bands?

Gotye's music is very interesting, sometimes he does Hip-Hop, and other times he does what-ever-this-is.
A Day To Remember is a metal band that stick to metal; All I want and All Signs Point To Lauderdale are my favorites.
The Shins are more progressive rock/folk rock (and very recommended); Pink Bullets and Turn On Me is one of my favorites.
The Flaming Lips are alt rock. obligatory when talking about Flaming Lips.

faith no more, mr. bungle, primus, the reverend Horton heat, doomtree(they're a collective, look at each artist too), jack off jill, descendents, fugazi, diesel queens, nekrogoblikon, red fang, boris, scroobius pip, violent femmes, agent orange, dick dale, tom waits, peeping tom, tomahawk, butthole surfers, andre nickatina, tech nine, baroness, ministry, lords of acid, revolting cocks, dillinger escape plan, down, corrosion of conformity, MC chris, aesop rock, black crowes, dead milkmen, cake, pussycat and the dirty johnsons... more to come later, as I remember.
