I don't understand why this Consumer Reports blog is getting so much hype. Up until now, did people really care about what products CR did or didn't recommend? Nope!Umm...I'm on the same side as you when it comes to how much I care about CR, but it's definitely true that for a lot of regular consumers , they follow this magazine like it's God. The influence of CR cannot be denied.

I'm tired of all of these new incarnations of the iPhone. I can only imagine the future, where Apple has come up with a new way to download music and videos directly to your pancreas via the iHole.

To be honest, today's event wasn't even necessary if the the bad press didn't over-exaggerate the problems. I've repeatedly said this - the iPhone 4 is only having issues with very weak reception areas and only that. Tons of people are having no problems at all. The amount of unjustified hate Apple is getting for the last few weeks is just stupid.
I don't care what kind of "tests" they do. AT&T data shows that the iPhone 4 drops less calls than the iPhone 3GS. That's solid, mass-area evidence that the iPhone 4's antenna is great.
Neither Steve or I are denying that there is a problem with the antenna for areas of low reception. In fact, 0.55% users are affected. That's actually a lot more than what I thought it was (I assumed less than 0.1%), so this is definitely a big problem…until today.
Apple has now offered a free bumper to EVERY iPhone 4 user, regardless whether they have problems or not. For the people who bought the bumper, they're refunding the money. If you're still not satisfied with your iPhone 4, just like always, you can take it back to return it.
Let's ignore the fact that a $29 (now free) case solves this entire drama, but the fact that you could have returned the iPhone 4 this entire time. I see people saying "ZOMG I CAN'T MAKE A FUCKING CALL ON THIS WITHOUT DROPPING" online all the time. All I have to say to that is, as much as I like Apple, I would have returned a phone that can't even make phone calls. The fact that you're not returning it simply leads me to the conclusion you don't really have a problem, or this problem isn't so big as you have to return your phone.
You can return the phone at any time. The iPhone 4 return rates are even lower than the iPhone 3GS. What does this conclude? What I've been saying since the beginning: there is no REAL problem for the majority of consumers. All this is just bad press, in combination to PR nightmare (something Apple is infamous for).
For the sake of 0.55% of people in weak reception areas, Apple is now giving free cases to 100% of their customers. Apple is a company that cares about its image. It wants ALL users to be happy, and that's why I never lost confidence in them in the past few weeks. As a user of Apple products for years, I've seen many similar dramas. The overheating MacBook Pros. The freezing 27" iMacs. The yellowing screens of the first iMacs. All of them turned out to just be over exaggeration from the media. The iPhone 4 is the same. It was just a small problem, and now Apple is fixing it. The fact that Apple is not changing the design shows how minimal this problem is.
That's all I have to say. I learnt nothing new from today's press conference. If every consumer had enough sense like me to not believe everything newspapers and random online haters say, Apple wouldn't need to waste so much time hosting this event. They'd just post a message and hand out free bumpers. Unfortunately, not everyone has had experience with Apple through tough times before like I have, but now Apple has proven to you that they're a company you can trust to buy expensive products from. You will never be disappointed or mislead.
The only thing I'm concerned right now is how I'm going to get my free case, since I imported my iPhone 4 from the US. I guess I'll be missing out. But as I've always said, I'm amongst the 99.45% who never experienced any problems. This is the best smartphone I've ever owned.

I didn't mean grats on the free case in a sarcastic manner. Seriously thats awesome that your getting a case and that Apple responded to its customers. They are even going out of the way and letting you choose a 3rd party case if you want. They did a complete 180 from the forum moderation thing and improved their public image with this.

Why is it that whenever I post anything, people automatically assume I'm attacking them? I post in peace lol.

Its all good. What case are you getting or have already got? If I had a fucking job I would seriously consider getting either this or the Samsung Galaxy S from whatever network isn't shitty in my area.

I use the Belkin Grip Vue for iPhone 4. I used the same skin for my iPad so I knew it was what I wanted. It provides protection for the back, keeps your hands off the antenna and is anti-slip. Best of all it's only $24.99, $5 cheaper than the Bumper (before it became free).

You have good taste to narrow your choices down to the iPhone 4 and the Galaxy S. I'm being completely unbiased and talking from sheer facts when I say this, but right now given our current market, it's either the iPhone 4 or the Galaxy S - nothing else is an option when compared to these.
Since the iPhone 4 can be unlocked (in a few days), it all comes down to which operating system you prefer: Android or iOS.
