iPhone/iPad: Is It Worth The Money? Also, Skyfire & Anime?
0
So I was thinking of getting an iPad. The problem -No wait make that problems- is, it's extremely expensive, Apple comes out with a better version within a year, and it can't play Flash.
This leads to my first question: Is it really worth the money? I mean seriously, $500? I'm not made of money...
Onto the second question:
From what I've researched, the app "Skyfire" allows you to play Adobe Flash videos (and I think it's extremely stupid how Apple bans Adobe from the OS for the iPad/iPhone/iTouch) by converting the Flash to HTTP5 code, allowing the OS to play the video. Does Skyfire allow you to watch anime from anime streaming websites such as "AnimeFreak.tv", "Watchanimeon", "ZomgAnime", and "Anilinkz"?
The fourth question:
Will I be able to read doujins on FAKKU and read manga off of websites such as "Mangafox" and "Mangareader"?
Final question:
Are there any other apps besides Skyfire that will allow me to use Flash?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What do you think?
Thanks to anyone who answers my questions! I am considering getting an iPad to watch anime, hentai, YouTube videos, and read manga/doujin on since that's pretty much the only thing I do on my laptop, other than research/work/etc. I believe that the iPad/iPhone is a good invention/concept for the future of mobile computing. However, the price is about the same price as a decent laptop or desktop PC.

For starters, buy a refurbed first gen iPad from Apples store for $350 to save some cash if youre on the fence about it. Cant really say much on the iPhone, as I have no desire at all to own one.
oddly enough, despite not having flash, i cant say theres enough flash presence for me to notice it. cant say ive wanted to stream anything either, seeing as air video streams video files from your pc and codes everything through on its own.
Pretty much as it is now, I use my ipad whenever Im not at home, where I use my pc for most tasks anyway, unless I want to just kick back and watch something. The portability helps a ton, seeing as its not as bulky as a laptop, nor do I have to hunt for a constant source of power due to the battery life.

i mentioned earlier that there was a program called Frash on cydia but that may or may not have been discontinued, but if you can gt your hands on an ipad running iOS3 you can still use it.
In all practicalitythough, it still works great for everyday use one you get used to touchtyping. I use it everyday in my classes, and I think ImperialX can give you more examples of its everyday application.
As for the new version, Apple tends to be exponential down the same chain of products. The iPad2 is by leaps and bounds superior to the 1G ipad, but as time progresses the next ipads after that will generally only be slightly better each time.
And lastly, do not underestimate the power of jailbreaking, I use my ipad to dl doujins and hentai off the net to read. Once jailbroken the ipad can get pretty close to an actual computer in terms of practicality.

Yes, it's worth the money. Small, easy to use, doing its job fast and efficiently, great battery, great screen.
I suppose you can watch many sites that have embedded flash videos. Crunchyroll has its own free app on the AppStore, btw.
You can also obviously browse and read manga from Fakku on iPad, i'm doing it sometimes, even though big resolutions are resized. I'm using iComics to read my doujins after resizing them with irfanview (on my comp)
And yes, there are other solutions to read flash. But you need to jailbreak your iPad.

Does jailbreaking mess the iPad up? I know it voids the warranty. Also, does jailbreaking cost money?

Mine isn't jailbroken, but it's safe and you can easily revert it by doing a restore in iTunes. And it's obviously free :)

I've borked it many times before with what I do on it, but it's never anything that can't be fixed by a simple restore. The benefits greatly outweigh the risks and these days, jailbreaking is a lot more simple than it was back on iOS1

If you absolutely need Flash (although I can't imagine why anyone would need it) get an Android 3.0 tablet. Making the iPad 2 play flash is just such a messy procedure I wouldn't recommend anyone trying to do it.

A very good point. For someone such as myself, I'm always at a computer when I'm at work and home. I have just always preferred a full sized mouse and keyboard and large monitor. I could use it when I'm in class and take notes, but then for $500, and even $350, I just feel I could be putting toward better use for larger hard drives in my file sever, since it desperately needs it now. Also to buy anime that I really want to own on DVD.

With iPhone/iPad and Android devices, they're all centered around apps, not necessarily browsing the web. So any site that relies entirely on flash to deliver it's content, in this case YouTube, they have an app in place of going to the site via web browser, so you can actually view their content. So the only time you would really need flash on any of these if you really want to be able to view someone's fancy site that is made entirely in flash. Like this fancy one for example. A website like that is much better experienced on a bigger screen(which a tablet does have, but I'm sure you get the point)
So most "big" flash video websites will probably have an app on both platforms since it's just plain easier to use the app rather than browse to their site on a phone or tablet.

OK thanks! I might get the Android 3.0 tablet then. Can you "jailbreak" it and get free apps/multitask on it like you can with the iPad? Also, which/what tablet would you say is the best?

IPAD because it was here first. It also plays nice with other apple products if you have them like a MAC computer.

Can you "jailbreak" it and get free appsAndroid doesn't need to be rooted or modified for you to pirate apps. That's why Android 3.0 only has a grand total of 60 apps available compared to iOS's 300,000 apps. Developers don't like making things for a platform where people can so easily steal their work.
