Is It Safe To Upgrade My Web Browser?
0
I was surfing the web just now and I tried to enter a site but then it redirected me to this site: http://godarkforie.org/upgrade/which says I should upgrade my web browser.(I'm pretty sure I'm using Internet Explorer 7)
However I am suspisious. I'm reading this site and its going on about how "Old browsers hurt the web!" and "Using IE8 and below makes the web less than what it is!"
This has the tone of propaganda to me and I'm wondering whether or not they are trying to trick me into installing some bad software. Or maybe this new browser has something hidden in it that will track what I look at online.
Does anyone know anything about these new browsers they are suggesting an whether they are safe? And does anyone know anything about this Go Dark For IE movement and it is dangerous?

No, you're totally wrong. IE 7 (and 6, 5, etc.) are outdated browsers with unpatched vulnerabilities.
You really *should* use an up to date browser.
Whether it's IE 8 (XP), IE 9 (Vista, Win 7), IE 10 (Win 8), Chrome or Firefox is up to you... just use one that's actually maintained with an active code base!

Simply Google search it, i never heard of a project like that (i never used IE) but i found this.
Try to read it and see if that answer your questions.

You need to upgrade your browser. Go Dark for IE is a perfectly legitimate movement, and it's certainly not the only one of its kind. Using a old browser like Internet Explorer 7, which no longer receives updates, can open up your computer to more viruses.
Old Internet Explorer versions "hurt the Web" because website developers are forced to pander to the lowest common denominator of browsers, mainly Internet Explorer 6 and 7, which do not support many of the features available to web developers in newer browsers. Some websites make strides to make themselves compatible with outdated IE versions, albeit with compromises, while others just give up on older IE versions and send people like you to movements like Go Dark for IE which encourage you to upgrade your browser.
If you're using Windows XP, you need to upgrade to Firefox, Chrome, or Opera. If you're using Windows Vista, you can also upgrade to Internet Explorer 9 or any of the browsers I just listed.

Come again? Safari had their latest update(6.0.2) just a bit more than a month ago? It is very much still supported. However, Safari 6 is not available for Windows yet.
Maxthon is a so-so browser imo. It's up to date, steady updates and lot of modern-tech features. Sadly at the cost of being a pretty buggy sometimes though.
Chrome ftw.
As for the OP, and anyone else using an ancient browser, please update. I work with web development and there is nothing worse than trying to make stuff work with old versions of IE or Firefox.

I had a lot of problems with Maxthon 3. Mainly playing videos, it was essentially a 50/50 chance that the browser would crash at any site containing a video. Or well, I guess it was flash that messed with it.
It also just randomly crashed at random sites. Take F! for example, some threads would just not work, and always crash for me for no reason. It's sad, because Maxthon IS a real good browser when it works.
