I had a friend who was a pusher, and one of his customers was a male prostitute. the first time i met him, he was bragging about it. the second time he was talking about an up coming job for two women at the same time. the third time he wouldn't say anything at all. we speculated that the women were 'pitching', and he was 'catching', and that's why he was silent. that is the sum total of my knowledge of male prostitutes.

I think there's a certain "rank" to prostitutes.

The lowest is by the roadside, usually crank whores. They are usually ridden hard by a pimp. This is something I'd like to see gone and eradicated.

Girls in massage parlors and brothels have more protection, but they can be just as exploited by the owners, especially if they're "working" (...or sold) abroad.

Above them are CB prostitutes. They are called such, because their typical clients are long distance truckers and they usually negotiate the "deal" over CB radio. This type of prostitution has been long "tolerated" as its reclusive and is not a plagued with exploitation as roadside.

Above them I'd rank call-girls. They tend look middle-class and sometimes receive their clients in their own flat. In East Europe they're often university student and they do the trade to finance their tuition. Usually they work with a smaller clientèle with several regular customers.

Escorts can be thought of the high class prostitutes. With them, sex is usually not offered up front, instead the client has to pay for the mere "company" of the escort. As such they're even legally advertised...
...though sexual service is implicit in the situation it's not a given that it will take place.

In the western world gigolos are usually either "call-boys" or "escorts". In Asia you find men in brothels or even the street as several Asian countries have long standing traditions of male prostitutes.

To me it seems that it would be harder to be a male "hooker" compared to a female one. Women could always fake it, its hard for men to fake when they don't want to have sex.

Hosts just sit with you, talk and drink. Of course, not saying sex is out of the question off the records. But they are only paid for drinking and chilling with you at the club. Anything else is not related to the place of operation at all. There's a special term for rearranged "dates" in Japan too, I just forgot what it was called.

Yeah, in most cases these girls are either trying to fit in with the rest of their friends as they have no money to buy whatever, or they just struggling to make ends meet. Its truly sad that such things occur in one of the most technologically sophisticated societies in our world.
