Yeah... It's pretty dumb. I get neg reps for my nosebleed thread. It's like, "Come on dude, the name is there, but you enter it any way." FAKKU should just remove both the rep system and upvotes in the manga section.

For the most part, it's about contribution. The rest of the time, it's a matter of personal prerogative. So you will see people use it in a manner outside of the norm. If you're really upset about it, or concerned about being trolled outside of IB, send an email to jacob or talk to one of the other mods.

Reputation system is a joke, but for whatever reason, Jacob thinks it is fine the way it is, more likely he just doesn't care enough to mess with it.

I can see the idea behind it, as some kind of quantifiable figure to know who is a contributor, someone who is useful to Fakku, but in practice it is split up between multiple camps. There are a few with high reputation because they earn it for: uploading manga, pictures in nosebleeds, help out requests, or even display some intelligence in a forum post. However, too many (especially the - Reputation people) are doing it out of some pathetic popularity contest.

The point is, we don't need a number to measure someone's usefulness to the community. Spend more than a day here and you get a pretty good idea who is an active, useful member to the community, the trolls, and everyone inbetween.

As for being upset with it, the only thing you can do is ignore it. Unless someone is actually cheating the system (e.g. using multiple accounts to change reputation, or somehow getting more than one point per twenty-four hours, etc...) then there isn't anything you can do about it. Your reputation point is yours to do with as you please. If one person wants to spend their time -repping you every twenty-four hours from now until the end of days, that is their prerogative.
