Just got my first figure. So... What should I do with it?

I just went to a local anime convention today and thought I should finally buy at least one figure to spruce up my room. Not sure if this figure counts as a good one, but this is what I got.
(I'll post a pic of mine once I get a hold of a good camera.)
Since this is my first figure, I'm not sure if I should open it or leave it in the box. Advise me collectors!

Well if at some point in time you want to sell said figure then don't open it.
After box is opened figure will loose a lot of value in money.
However i myself don't buy figure to store them in the box, i put em where i can see them. And you stated that you wanted to put it in room so.
Few advices i can give is: don't touch figure whit sweaty/unwashed hands, whit time fingerprints can leave mark, don't put em on sunny spot, sun will kill figure in few years. Don't put mayonnaise on figure, just don't.
In my mind figure is not a toy, you cant really do much whit it. It looks nice and that's pretty much it.
Oh yeah forgot to add, there is no good figures, there is just once that you like, and once that you don't ;D

illuna pretty much covered a lot of the basics. If you have access to a display/glass shelf, those are good places to place your figure, but it's entirely optional. Make sure to periodically dust said figure. I found using compressed air only works very superficially but is also good for hard to reach spots. For more general dusting, I would recommend a dusting brush (like Swifter, etc.) since that stuff can take off dust fairly well.
Enjoy your figure and welcome to the black hole of figure collecting. :D

(Or is it that kind of mayo...?)Yes its that kind of mayo, and now you know why price drops if you open box. Cos you never know if someone had evil intent opening said box.

I guess I'll just put it on my desk. How many times should I dust it a week if I leave it in open air?Depends on how much dust actually gets on figure.
My figures are on shelf, and dust is really not much of a problem. Since i have 3 cats cat hair actually makes it to figures faster than dust.
I dust off figures lightly about once a month. And more thoroughly about every 6 month.

And I think I'm already in the black hole, haha... I want to buy another one...Just make sure that whenever you buy figures you really really think if you want it or not. You don't want to be in situation where you buy figure in a moment, and then start to regret it and think "omg that cost me X amount of money, i could have bought that other figure instead."

I want to buy another one...That really depends on how dusty your room gets. For me, I just need to do a quick dusting once every week or other week. Just don't let it accumulate too much or else you'll potentially get clumps of dust stuck in gaps. (this is even more applicable to poseable figures like Figma or Revoltech)
Lol, yeah, it's going to be a pricey road, but go for whatever you like.
(I want this figure next, even though price wise...well... XD;;

I want to find this one: http://myfigurecollection.net/item/78943
But release date was over year ago so its kinda hard now. And on ebay it costs about 300+ usd, well there are cheaper once but i think some of em may be fake.

Ah, right. I know about amiami, but I was a little confused at the parts where they sometimes say "Sold in Japan only". Thanks for the heads-up.
Yeah, popular figures can be hard to find even as recent as within half a year to a year. And ebay can be hit or miss. (The few figs and plamo I got on ebay I was lucky to not have any knockoffs)

A friend of mine told me that eBay is pretty safe as long as you reference the price of the figure you want to buy from legit online retailers like J-list or amiami. Should I buy my future figures off eBay? I actually want to buy this Milla Maxwell figure, but not sure if it's legit. Is it?You never know, i bought a lot of figures off ebay, however my Diabolus Ungulate is certainly fake (even tho it said real on ebay) and price was about 130 usd + shipping + tax.
Tho i don't really care that much since its still good looking.
So thread whit care on ebay, and if possible use amiami or similar site.

Leaving it in the box is a waste. Open it and put it on a stable shelf for everyone to worship.
And remember to keep it clean (unless it's a closed glass shelf). :3

Thanks for the advice. I'll be sure to only use eBay as a last resort. Beside amiami, what other side would you recommend?Well most of my orders where made via amiami or ebay(figures that where sold out ages ago)
Last order of Sasaki-san i made via http://www.nippon-yasan.com
So that's pretty much it for what i can recommend.
I have preorder left on http://www.toylet.net/ for Gamer girl from Native, but that's not done yet(release date is around December) so i cant recommend that site till preorder comes thru. But site did deliver via ebay store.
