Last House on the Left REMAKE
0
So yeah, they're remaking Last House on the Left.
You may not know what this movie is, but if you enjoy the works of Wes Craven, you know that this was his first film and a classic to his fans.
Synopsis in spoiler if you wanna know.
There are two things I look for in a remake.
1) It has to do justice to the original. I've seen some remakes of some classic movies that just sucked terribly and brought down the name of the original. This was never some grand masterpiece but it deserves respecting. (I have a bad feeling about this though)
2) It can't be too different from the original. At a certain point a remake isn't a remake anymore as too many things have been changed. It strikes me as someone had an idea that wasn't original enough to be called something different so the decided to call it a "remake."
I'm overall not a fan of remakes because it seems like someone just wants to bank on someone else's idea. :?
Sidenote: Horror movies in general have no affect on me anymore as I've been watching them since a young age and am desensitized to it but I can appreciate a good gory bloodbath or a somewhat realistic psychological horror. This being the latter. Movies that depict things that are plausible in real life are better imo.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else is looking forward to this or have even heard of it.

God I loved the original. I thought it was really funny. But yeah same with you. I hate remakes. It's like the American horror industry now has nothing creative to make anymore. All they can do is do remakes of classic films and japanese and korean horror films.

I saw a commercial for this yesterday, and when they showed the name at the end, I almost punched my wall. This really pisses me off.
I've seen the original, and I kind of enjoyed it. I enjoyed it more afterward than while watching it, because I was thinking about what I had just seen, what everything meant. The comedy mixed in with the horrific violence, the fact that the movie has next to no plot, and the feelings you have about the parents, if what they did was right or wrong.
This movie, I can tell, will have none of that. It'll just be a movie with a ton of violence to captivate the audience, and some humor to make the audience laugh, not to make them think or feel anything.
I really have to wonder, "What's the point?" I can understand Asian horror films being remade because lazy American bastards won't want to read subtitles. I can understand Friday the 13th and other horror classics being remade because they're part of a series, and they're very clear-cut - a guy kills people. But Last House of the Left? It's not the first movie in a long series of movies. It doesn't have a tradition spanning several decades. And it certainly isn't the simple kind of movie that can be remade with more gore, like Friday the 13th. In fact, more gore ruins this kind of movie, where the amount of violence is enough to be realistic and thus move the audience. A fountain of blood just makes the audience go "Whoa," and all meaning is lost.
Every year, I think I hate American cinema a little more. Especially when it comes to horror movies.

Preach it, my brother!
