I don't understand how people can live as a hikikomori. I've been doing it for like 2 months now. And it is soooo boring! I can't wait til college starts. that way I can go out and experience life! how do you guys feel on the topic?

I haven't went anywhere for 2 days. I feel bad and would like to do something about it.

Mental/social isolation is often not really something you come out of that easily. Also it depends on how long you've let it grown in to your system, and if you need alot of structure in your life, and offcourse how flexible and open you are towards change.

I like fresh air and fun outdoor activities. I want to experience things outside these four walls. Playing games, reading, relaxing, sleeping etc. are good to do just not on a 24hr basis. xD

In a way, I lived like that for a year. It felt... kind of empty, as if I was missing something. Then I finally started a new apprenticeship and since then I'm much better.

I feel sick when I have to spend my holidays boarded up in my room doing extra work while browsing Fakku.

I've been somewhat doing that. I only really leave to go to work. Mostly because I'm broke and there's now't else to do. I've been getting used to it. I don't like it (it does feel empty), but at the same time I also don't dislike it.
I could probably stay like this for some time yet.
If I get too bored, I just bitch and moan about it for a while, then just open up Fakku or summat and I'm back to normal.
I am absolutely 100% sure there is nothing at all unhealthy about this.

you have been going to work so thats different. If you were actually a hikikomori you wouldn't leave you house/room like ever, maybe to get food. But certainly not to go to work. so yes in your case its not unhealthy, because you go to work.

Which makes me wonder, what do hikikomoris typically do for work? Clearly they must be self-employed or else have a job that permits them to work from home. It's an option I would consider. It'd save me bundles on petrol. :3

Hikikomoris usually leech off their parents.

I think as long as i could solve the whole, money issue, i could deal with it. After all, there is always online shopping to get new things to do.

I've been stuck inside for a while because of the holidays, and you know what, I'm not terribly excited to go back to school.

This is something that I take personally. I despise the term hikikomori, because it has become a blanket term applied to people who are withdrawn from the outside world. There was a time when I thought I was a "hikikomori," but I have legitimate psychological issues that interfere with my ability to be a part of society in any way.
In this scenario there are 3 types of people, those who are incapable of functioning in society, those who struggle to find a way to function in society, and those who choose to withdraw from society because they're fucking cowards.
For people like me, we have an intense, almost agonizing, desire to be a part of society, but for whatever reason, it is something that is beyond our reach. To be grouped together with people who consciously remove themselves from society makes me fucking sick.
Hikikomori are fucking cowards.

Ever watch "NHK ni yokoso!"? It pretty much sums it up.That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw this thread.
Although, psychologically speaking, I'm guessing that in some cases people don't stay in because they want to, but because they feel that they have to. They stay in because they're afraid of what's out there, not because they just feel like being lazy. At least, that's what I got from the show.
