Love..what does it mean to you?
0
After watching a movie with the main character asking everyone else this question "what does love mean" I too started to think about this question and decided to ask other people.
I don't like to get too personal on this site but today I will.
I have personally never been in love before, I have dated before but I don't think it was love. It was more like I was desperate to not be alone anymore. When I dumped a girl or when I was dumped, I wasn't thinking of them I was only thinking about myself. Why do I have to be alone again? Was a question I always asked myself.
I'm actually a romantic I love romance, I mainly watch foreign romance films like A moment to remember and A Beautiful Life. I don't know why but I am and it doesn't make me less of a man. I even watch Korean Dramas, I read Romance manga, I've read a lot of romance books and even erotic books. Maybe I love watching the one thing I've felt that I've had or never will have though I like to think more positive than that. So I'll just that I don't know why I like romance I just do....
So I just want to ask you what you think love is?
Please no inappropriate answers, I'm being serious now

I'd tell you to check out that definition of love thread that's still in the first page here... but then I remembered the shitstorm it devolved into thanks to LustfulAngel.
Anyway, my own definition would be: someone you really, really care about. Love is when you're willing to sacrifice for the other as they would for you, but understanding that you don't have to give up/change EVERYTHING to keep the relationship going. It's realizing the difference between real love for a person, and obsessive dependence on them (as in, you literally couldn't live or function properly without them). Codependence is not love, it's a health risk. Trust me, I've seen so.
Most importantly, I believe love is being there for them when they want you around, and vice versa, while striking a nice balance between that and your own personal time. It's trust, communication, emotional... it's really something that can't be described properly, to be honest.
But who am I to talk? I've never even dated. =w=

I agree that I like romance stuff, although I will admit that I prefer the type that is portrayed in romantic comedies/seinen manga and such. (Densha Otoko is a fun and good old drama for me). Mostly because I can relate to those, although I am particular about making it too haremy. And it is fairly embarassing to read/watch around other ppl.
Hmmm, my definition? Being able to relate to somebody on a multitude of things, share your interests, dreams, feelings, and so on with them. Caring about them is also very important but that usually comes with relating to people on multiple things. All of this is really cheesy but I suppose it is the generic answer.
To be honest I'm still trying to figure out if this definition is right since as far as I know, no girl has really been interested in me, much less love me. I don't claim to have high hopes and blind optimism about getting into a relationship when history has shown me otherwise. Sure it would be good but unlikely.

Maybe since you're really into "fantasy love" you can't see the fact of what "reality love" is.
To put it simply, Fantasy has a more "perfect" way of portraying what love is when reality is very different from it.
For me, my detention of love is this: If you can imagine yourself being with the person on a porch when you're old and grey, then that is what love is.

I have been in love a couple times, yes you can love more than once, doesn't mean the ones before or after aren't really love. I've had my ups and downs with my exs, my heart breaks, and now I am happily in a relationship that has surpassed over two years :3. I do agree with you though, I am such a romantic, I'm always sooo into video games with a more romantic plot line, or anime/manga's that are about romance, or romance movies <3
So to me love is trust, getting through the good and bad, working together, love, it's not about making sacrifices, it's about compromising and doing things together, being happy, being faithful, the feeling you get when that one person is around that no matter what situation they just put in a mood of utter bliss :3.

Oddly enough I just made a post about this to my friends on other websites, but love seems to be something that you can put your whole heart & effort towards (Yes this applies to caring about someone, something, a favorite anything, etc.) and doing is passionately even with the potential stress that comes along with it and having at least a BIT of obsession over whatever it may be.

To me, love is:
Seriously though (not that the TP thing wasn't serious), love is knowing that you trust someone else with the entirety of your being. You leave your heart, and your life in your partner's (keep in mind that I'm speaking more about serious relationships rather than dating), trusting them but also knowing them well enough to know that they won't do any harm. You give yourself over to them, and they do the same to you.
A lot of people go wrong when they don't fully know what they want in such a relationship, lose respect for one another, or just stop trying. Loving one another needs full effort, it CANNOT ever be half-assed, one-sided, or just codependence.
Sexuality plays a big role in love and romance, though. When you can trust your partner with yourself at your most vulnerable state, it makes a big difference in your relationship. Sex is something that is always changing, evolving with your relationship. You stop paying attention to yourself, stop thinking "what can I do with person X to benefit me?" and start paying attention to your partner. You use that desire to please him/her to please yourself. There's a great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction when you know that YOU make your partner happy.
The quality of one's sex life with their partner really affects the relationship as a whole. You become more and more passionate as you discover new things about your partner.
I elaborate quite a bit on sexuality and love on my post here: http://electronicstereophonic.tumblr.com/post/51791486273/why-i-love-our-sex
(Sorry for the tumblr link, I can't really post things like that on my facebook since I have family on there.)
I highly recommend reading it, because I feel like I did a really good job explaining it. The only reason why I give myself that credit is because I'm in a relationship that...well, honestly, is a kind of relationship that you don't see too often in society anymore. I know it's geared more towards sexuality, but the concepts behind it can easily be applied to a relationship.
- Putting another roll of toilet paper in the holder when you finish the previous one without being told/asked to.

I like harem once in a while too as long as its not a reverse harem those get annoying.
I like your answer, I can relate to it. Usually I find girls tend not to tell someone that they love them or have an interest in someone. Boys usually have to find out the hard way but confessing to a girl. I feel like how you feel sometimes

Hmm very nice answer , by the way I checked out your tumblr it was really good.
I like how you talk about sex and romance the effects of it in a relationship. Not a lot of people like to talk about that. Also I believe communication plays a big part in romance as well. YOu can communicate through looks, touch, words, body movement, sex.

Exactly, people nowadays don't realize that. They expect romanticism out of the blue, or demand the impossible. Society is raised with unrealistic expectations on love, by the media for examples (read leonard627's writing on marriage which explains it as a social contract). My goal is to find a sweet girl next year that really likes me, and with the same expectations I do, as in to see maririage and the relationship as I described before, not as a mere breeding pen to avoid dying without passing on ones DNA.
That's so true(I'll do that) that is a very nice goal and I hope you accomplish it.
Breeding pen I have never heard that before, I know what you mean.
My goal is to find a nice girl that can inspire me

"Breeding pen" was Carl G. Jung's (psycologist opposed to Freud) way of describing a loveless marriage. In which the mutual love and respect for each other is gone, and they keep producing more children mindlessly until they die, not out of love, but sexual satisfaction.
PS: Noticed a grammatical error in my post! "to see maririage" instead of "marriage"! Sorry 'bout that.
wow thank you, that is deep. I'll look into this guy, I've only heard of Freud and Kinze. It will be nice to see someone who opposed freud.
PS: it's alright we all have moments like that
