Maynard James Keenan (born James Herbert Keenan on April 17, 1964)[2] is an American rock singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, winemaker, and actor. Originally from Ohio, Keenan spent his high school and college years in Michigan. After serving in the Army in the early 1980s, he attended Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids. He moved to Los Angeles, California, in 1988 to pursue a career in interior design and set construction, and formed the band Tool with Adam Jones shortly thereafter.Keenan is best known as the lead singer of the multi-platinum rock bands Tool and A Perfect Circle with whom he has released four and three studio albums, respectively. In 2003, he created Puscifer as a side project, financing and releasing its first studio album in October 2007. Puscifer made its concert debut in Las Vegas in February 2009, and Tool began their summer tour, headlining both the Mile High Music Festival and Lollapalooza.
The man is an amazing singer, and to me, an even better lyricist. I'm sure anyone around here who's been into metal for some time(and none of that "Metallica" crap.) have probably heard of this man, or at least his main band(Tool), or his side projects A Perfect Circle(APC), and the newer Puscifer band. As always, share your opinions and thoughts. If you're into metal, or even a bit of grunge, I highly recommend listening to Tool.

I like Tool a lot more than I like APC, but dude's got skills, and I generally enjoy his work.
I had always hoped that Tapeworm would actually produce something, being that I'm also a fan of Trent Reznor's work, but I also always thought that putting two egos like Keenan and Reznor's together in one project would be cataclysmic, so I'm just happy the world didn't end.

Maynard is God.
Honestly, though, he needs to do less of the Puscifer type stuff. I understand artistic expression very well, but there's a strength in sticking with what you're best at as well. The music he creates when he's with Tool are his best expressions, bar none. More Tool, less distraction.
These guys are incredible in concert, by the way. The Continental Arena show they did in October '06 remains the most epic concert I've ever seen. Nothing has come close, since.

I haven't gotten the chance to see Tool live yet, the one time I had a ticket I got called in for work on an emergency the day I was going to leave.

That's a travesty. Go see them next time they're in the area, even if you have to shoot your boss.

Kind of Important
A ray of Tsunlight.
I'm curious, is bashing Metallica supposed to make people think someone is a hardcore metal connoisseur or something? Back in their day, they were great. And the vast majority of their music has aged quite well. Compared to modern metal though? Not so much. It's just simple progress really.
Anyway, my blatant fanboyism aside, I really do like Maynard, he has great range, creates some badass lyrics, and overall just seems like a really chill kinda guy.
Would I call him the best vocalist/songwriter ever? Maybe, he sure as hell is in the running.

Three years ago but oh well, I have nothing against Metallica itself. I was more or less poking fun at the mainstream, specifically the people who see Metallica as the only metal band in the world and haven't actually explored the genre beyond that single band.

Is the three years referring to the original post or his comment?
Anyways, Maynard is a fantastic vocalist. He's definitely someone I'd like to meet and watch perform live. I also love that he also knows how to do some good theatrics on the side (note: that's just a cherry on top of a delicious hot fudge sundae).
