I just realized how varying your style is. I like it how the Miku pics look a bit girly, the Konata pic is well, Lucky Star style and that Tegumis avatar pic is a bit more realistic. And I really really like the way you color :o All those wrinkles in the Tegumi picture are so well drawn and even more well colored.
+ you dont seem to have much problems with hands. I hat drawing hands and the hands on your drawings are so pretty. Me jealous :>

Haha you just need to understand how a hand is build, and when that's out of the way, it'll come naturally. I used to draw hands like this but nowadays I pretty much can go without the guidelines :)

About the varying style, you pointed out my biggest problem! I'm having a hard time with settling into just one style. I love drawing massive sparkly eyes and ridiculously long flowy hair, but somehow it feels like the easy way out. I also think more realistic way looks more professional at times.

Or at least I like to think that way, because even tho I try really hard to keep just one style, I too have the same problem :D And even tho I find it really annoying that I cant draw with one style only, I like other drawers who use more than one style. Dunno why tho :D

Hey Merriment, the pictures are pretty interesting.
Tegumi's avatar is especially done in an interesting style.
Keep up the good work, I like! :)

Laggi asked me to help him with drawing faces so here's a short tutorial :) It's just from front though. If somebody wants me to, I can also make a bit turned (showing ~3/4 of the face) and profile tutorials later.
Didn't know what style to use so I picked quite a neutral one, I hope it's okay.
Explanation & Tips below

Start with a ball, then draw two lines that end up forming a rough upside down triangle underneath the ball. Eyes to the middle of this balltriangle. Remember that whatever the size of the eyes, the space between them should be fitted for one more eye. Any closer or wider looks retarted. When looking straight, the irises get a bit covered by the upper eyelid and barely touch the lower lid. Ears start from eyebrows and continue to the nose which is located at the bottom of the ball (although with cute anime girls the ears tend to be smaller and start lower). If you're going for a more realistic style, draw the chin wide, anime characters usually have a more pointy chin. Men have wider chin and neck than women (young boys have thin necks).
A bigger version of the picture is available in the OP

Wow. I've been looking through all of your stuff but I have to say that Teg's avatar is by far my favorite.
Would you mind doing an avatar for me? If so, that would be dandy.
How did this start? Your drawing abilities, that is. Were there classes? Something pushed on your by a parent? Trial and error in your free time? Doodling in class? You buy books on it?
And for the "guideline" drawings, did you buy a book on human anatomy or human structure and joins for drawing or is that all just assumptions from different work you've seen and/or personal experience?

Wow, thank you! Oh my, I'm afraid that you're gonna have to wait if you want to get an avi from me, I'm a bit busy with everything right now. But if you don't mind the wait, just send me PM about it and I'll get to it sooner or later.
First, I've always liked to draw, but I never intended for it to become such a passion of mine. When I was around 12 years old, my family moved and my chances of getting into the school all my friends were going went down. In order to secure a place for me there, I had to apply for one of the special (math/music/art) classes. I decided to go with art even though I was skilled in math. The reason was simply because I found art lessons soothing and enjoyable.
Later in life two things happened that had huge emphasis on my interest towards drawing and art. One: I recieved a manga volume as a present and found myself sinking into every picture, the amount of detail was breathtaking for someone who's only experience of comics so far was Donald Duck.
And two: Browsing internet I discovered a talented, popular amateur artist who quickly received a place as one of my idols. I set a goal; before my nineteenth birthday I'd acchieve the level of skill in drawing she had.
I don't think the art classes in school did that much for me - but I bought books, yes. I've got around seven books on manga drawing (most made by western artists, yet I've found them very helpful). The "guideline" drawings are a collection of what I've learned from them mainly and what works for me.
Fat pile of text is fat.
Oh and p.s. I also scan every art piece I see very carefully, no matter what the style.

Wish I could draw like you, clean.
Everything I draw ends up sketchy at best. Also you gave some nice tips for other people.

Do you have a drawing tablet? Also I use SAI, which is total heaven to me. Simple and has some neat brushes which make things easy. SAI only works on PC tho.

Yeah I do have a tablet, and I use Sai as well, used it to make those animated doodles which I posted around.

Patience, zooming in/out and long lines. You already clearly can scetch well and the proportions work, so I think you'll get the hang of this too in no time. It'll be interesting to follow your improvement. Don't know if this is of any help but here's me drawing lines:
