isn't all just fat which is then turned into muscle by working out? That is what i heard.
That's a misconception really. During exercise, the fat just burned off to supply energy to your body. And during your exercise, your muscle are more or less damaged, it needed nutrition to regenerate afterward, which is where all those muscle milk and protein shakes come in, it help your body regenerate and heal your muscle. And there are no traces of fat in any of those process.

The best window of time to take shakes is about... ~30 minutes after the start of your workout. Your body accepts nutrients better at this stage because it's looking for a more instant solution to the pain and the soreness of your cooled-down muscles so it's easier to go into recovery phase. You really notice a difference between two hard workouts when you take some protein in one and don't take it in the other... what you eat is important too. If you're not into shakes for a day, beef jerky and steak are great substitutes. :)

I agree that steak is a very good and tasty subsitute but I dont know what a beef jerky is though?

When you're talking about protein shakes, you're talking about whey protein (sort of an extract from milk). It comes in isolate and concentrate form. Isolate is like 93% protein while concentrate is generally around 60% protein.
I think most whey protein is junk, it comes from shitty sources AND the processing often destroys the most valuable nutrients within the whey. All that's left is some basic protein molecules and sugars.
You're better off eating a lot of whole eggs, whole cut beef and nutrient dense vegetables; the micronutrients in these foods helps you grow much better than the empty whey at supplement stores.
For muscle growth, the most important thing is the intensity that you train with at the gym, work your body into the ground. If you're an ectomorph (skinny guy), you'll need to stuff your face with food for a few months to jump start the anabolic growth.
And fat can't turn into muscles....it's literally impossible. The misconception came from endomorphs. Endomorphs are the bigger guys that gain weight easier. These guys not only gain fat faster, but they also gain muscles faster. Which led people to think that you should gain weight first...which doesn't do anything. It only worked because of endomorph's (fat guy's) genetic potential.

protein in liquid form is more easily digested and goes into your system quicker after a workout. personally though, i just eat raw eggs; they contain all necessary amino acids.

Spoiler:
first time hearing about biotin deficiencies, gonna read up more on that. as for salmonella, many sources i find from the internet say the chance of finding an egg with salmonella is very low, like 1 in 30,000.

I drink a fruit smoothie with whey protein before my workout, then I eat eggs after my workout.
I've heard multiple sources say that I should eat 20-30 minutes after I start working out, but I can't eat while I'm working out (has anyone ever seen anyone eating while they lift?)

Muscle Milk, Protein shake, etc., are drinks that are filled with protein and other vitamins and minerals. People, like myself, drink it to expand and repair muscle tissue when I work out.

honestly, ive never used those stuff in my life and it shows. Im more ectomorphic but i have still gained strength without that stuff. I think it's because im training my nervous system more and toning my muscles more rather than trying to gain more muscle. But muscle milk and protein shakes well help you gain weight if you want to bulk up, but u may end up getting fat along with it so dont rely on those too much.
