If you were the only person with the ability it would be hard to start a conversation with someone you dont know. Something like this might happen:

Other: "How did you know that?"
You: "Wild guess"
Other person thinks you are stalker with bad intentions.

Knowing fetishes from a glance will only make it easier to pick out people with desirable interests. It won't make anything easier outside of asking "what are your fetishes?"
