My First Perfect Grade

From Fisher Price! Srsly though. I've been doing gunpla for a few years now, buying kits once a year at the UK summer anime conventions. I started off on 00 HGs because it was airing at the time and it was all you could friggin' buy, and I've since moved on to MG from any series (particularly proud of my limited edition HD Zeta 2.0 HNNNGGGG). I want to take the next step and move onto the ridiculous awesome that is PG,.
Basically, my friend recently bought an HG Deathscythe and I realised what a huge difference the years have made in terms of quality and complexity (a THREE piece foot? THREE? There are more pieces in the HEEL of a HG these days). I was wondering if it might be best to start off on an earlier release (say, one of the UC kits like the RX-78-2) or to just dive right in to, I don't know, the Red Astray or the Freedom METEOR.
TL;DR: I want to buy my first Perfect Grade but I'm not sure I could handle one of the latest kits. Should I make an effort to get something older and simpler, or just go the hell for it?

depends on you really. If you're not confident enough yet go buy some mastergrade UC kits first then buy the perfect grade later. ALso, PG kits dosen't have that much choices to choose from and some old PG kits pale in comparison to remade MG kits.

Do not buy kits from hobby bench if you live in Phoenix, they over price the kits by not giving you the actual price in the tag.

PG's are just a bigger version of the MG's
well, i you have the space and time to build PG's then go for it.

Depends on how meticulous you are about detail. I'm just an amateur so i dont do any of the painting on any of my kits but if you want to move on to perfect grades I can let you know that there are way more pieces than most people expect. My recommendation is to get a good set of files since quite a lot of the pieces are pretty small and you really dont want any small bumps left after removing the pieces from its frame. Or some high quality sand paper could help if thats your thing.
Also, if you are not sure if you can handle the newest PG kits, why not start with the Strike Freedom. Its a relatively simple design so its hard to screw up but its articulation is great! Once you see how the joints work on your first PG, the later ones will be probably much easier to get into.
One final thing, make sure you have space. Like a large table or a clean floor, cuz there is an unholy amount of frames and even just a limb can use like 6 frames. Hope this helps.

Just buy what you like really. Paint and customize if you're confident abut your skills, and if not just go for it OOTB. Just be careful if you are considering the PG Strike Freedom, it has issues with its Wing Binder connections to its backpack, a lot of people say that the connectors are really fragile.
Recent PG's have very intricate engineering and noobs can faint just from the sheer number of parts that they have, well even the oldest ones are very well engineered already.
I've been painting and building Gunpla for a considerable amount of time now, and I've yet to buy a PG, however money and time constraints prevent me from actually considering to buy one ( I still have at least 10 MGs on my stack waiting to be built and painted) So whatever PG you end up buying be careful about it and weigh your choices carefully, because they are not exactly cheap.

Yeah, the price is the main thing that's led to me to this deep consideration of which kit to buy x) Ah well. Thanks for the feedback everyone! The conclusion I've come to is that I'm just going to look a list of PGs, pick one and just buy the damn thing. Probably something Universal Century. Or the Red Astray because that thing is actually arousing.
