[Locked] Need a $1,000 laptop
0
$1,000 is the budget. I need a laptop that can run Minecraft decent and without problems. Don't really need much, just planning on playing indie games like zomboid and Starbound in the near future and I'm gonna need a replacement for this old laptop I'm using atm(5 years old, starting to run like shit). Anyone got any ideas?

-_-;;
Anything you buy for $600 nowadays has the specs to play your indie games. Get a ThinkPad for that budget. Or if you want something with a bit of power ASUS offers a variety of gaming laptops, I personally have the g73jh series. Of course look around, you'll get cheaper offers than the official channels.

Well, I was planning on buying something with a bit of power and I'm not all that familiar with computers so I had to ask. Thanks for the tip through.

Judging by your budget, I assume you still can go for more. If you're looking for performance then I suggest you take a look at some of MSI New G(Gaming) Series notebooks which powered with the newly released 4th gen core i7 intel[Haswell] which supposedly offer better power consumption and also equipped with the latest Nvidia GTX 700m series mobile GPU. Take note that unlike PC, you can't upgrade your notebook as you like. Spend more, regret less (hopefully lol).

I'm thinking about buying this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215663
I heard it's a pretty decent package for a cheap price. Can play all sorts of games without lag but I'm not sure if it'll last me for another 2 years with proper care.
What do you guys think?

Decent for minecraft and indie titles.
Have fun.
But you can always find a one with More RAM. Added texture packages and something called OptiFine HD D3 Ultra will eat ram.

That AMD APU is OK enough for 720p medium high gaming already but if you can found other vendor than Acer would be really great. I personally try to avoid any Acer's product lately due to poor reliability with people around me in the past.
If you already have a powerful PC for gaming that is great. But if you don't have PC and not planning to have any and you want to buy a notebook, please seriously consider splashing some more cash for A GAMING NOTEBOOK. You may not need to play heavy games now but believe me in a year or two you eventually will want to.
This is a good deal IMHO if you want a 1080p gaming experience. It sure may upset your wallet but it sure as hell won't disappoint you gaming performance wise.

I plan on buying something to take with me to college, a desktop would be adding more burden to my car. I don't think I'll plan on buying heavier games in the future, for personal reasons. And what do you mean by Acer's unreliability? Do they break easily?

9 year old car, we're packing tons of stuff for a long 6 hour drive with 3 people in the car. A desktop might break or not fit at all. Also, I wanted something portable to take home during break.

OK now I fully understand your position. My last suggestion is do yourself a favor and choose a bit better AMD APU and better vendor. Inspect each specification carefully, if you're not sure, google is your friend. Sites like techpowerup or tomshardware which have huge hardware database or cpuboss should be helpful for you to decide what is best.

I've got an Acer. Agreed, the plastic breaks easily.
OT: aslong as the parts in the interior are properly screwed a bumpy ride shouldn't affect any of today's laptops, desktops, or consoles. Monitors are something else - wrapping the screen with a cloth should do the trick.

I've purchased a notebook from almost every manufacturer, Toshiba's are definitely at the top of my list for reliability, power and support, Acer is at the bottom of my list, ASUS and HP are on par with each other, others are not worth mentioning unless you like Apple products.
A C870 Satellite Pro is probably right up your alley i5-3230M, Radeon HD 7610M, 4 GB Kingston and 500 GB HDD. More than enough to handle Minecraft on high and keep you going for a few years to come, might want to throw in an extra 4 GB of RAM. $850 CAD from their own store, you'll find a better deal if you search elsewhere.
The boys at the tech shop I frequent are really supportive of HP's Ultrabook line if you want something powerful and super portable. They handle handle most of the major communications, server and workstation set-ups in the city I live in so I consider it safe to trust their judgement.
Anyways, that's my two cents, good luck!
