So my school asked for everyone to make a report(... essay?) about ACTA, SOPA and PIPA i've done a lot of searching etc but the report asks for other peoples opinion and since this is the only site where i read forum posts i'd like to have your opinion and to remind u all this is a serious thread even tho the topic is old
if you'd like to share your opinion i'd like u to say WHY u hate/like it and what u think will happen/change when/if the laws actually will forcefully take away all of the "illegal" content

In a certain point of view it could be a good thing since it can track down any potential illegal activities in the net.
However in another view it is not a good thing, it censors anything on the net which includes information, movies, music and such and spies on everyone on the net.
In my opinion I hate it, because it can potentially block everything we see on the net and possibly take away the freedom we have on the internet.
That means if the law passed then we will have no absolute access to anything on the web since the government sees almost everything on the net illegal.
ACTA is a dangerous one, if that law passed then we wouldn't be enjoying any anime online now would we?
Even Fakku would have to delete hundreds and even thousands of Manga/Doujins that involves with series that made from the company like Dragonball, Ah My Goddess and other popular series if they uploaded it without permission from the source.
Acta Sopa and the other are just laws and policies that wants to stop free products roaming around the net for free, that is the whole thing about it.

I agree that it would help against the illegal activities on the net but even tho piratebay etc exist the companies that make the movies, etc wont actually crash because of money issues will they?

It depends, piracy is illegal. It doesn't matter if the media make 10x their budget and piracy doesn't end up affecting it. The fact that it isn't allowed is enough to stop websites for this reason. I never understood the hate for people trying to stop piracy, when it is doubtful someone would support it if they lose money and a lot of people pirate their work.

Since it is a big issue they want to pass the law, so that way people would be making money again like last time.
I agree they won't actually crash since people, even though they have free access to movies are still willing to pay in the theaters and pay for music since it still contains good quality. They would just get poorer from the money not flowing into their pockets, but they still make whatsoever.
That is why even though there exists itunes and such there are still people having access to free entertainment, which is why they want to pass the law, since they are running out of options.

I'm personally against it because i really cant afford to pay for each movie i want to see :/ i know it's my problem but the fact that it doesn't really effect the companies makes it seem okey even though the morale says its not and i do agree its illegal content but does it really matter that much if i see a movie or not?

If everyone payed for the movies they watched the cost of movies would most likely decrease.

Spoiler:

I dont think so :/ since my logic is:
they make same amount of money atm as they would if people stopped downloading
therefore if more people payed they would get more money not less since the amount of money they make is still the same as before there's no Delta they'll always make more never less
Well... that was kind of wrong since the amount of viewers would decrease greatly and the movies will be less popular and might lead to less viewers(less money), but then again this is just a theory since the commercials etc is still going to announce the movies

My logic is that the real factor of the cost to see a movie or buy a movie is not set by the movie producers. It is set by the store that sells it which cost is determined by sales patterns and such, leaving the simple factors of demand to change the worth at any time.

Even if they did pass those " ubber-world-saving laws "
Bootlegs of infomation , porn , hentai and everything would still be free.
Just harder to find and enjoy.
Everything will be underground or watered down to the point your wasting your time fapping/poking.
I would download/save all the goodies now.
Thank you.

You're just like me.
Just find articles over the internet, and do some surveys.
That's what I did.
Anyway, not sure if SD material, should be in Random.
EDIT: Here is my opinion.
SOPA will not work because internet is too broad. One way is blocked, we can just go around it. Once it's also blocked, just go around it. It's too broad!!
The government and the companies should look at us downloaders as potential customers, not criminals. Why? because the reason we download is not to put them down.
Most of us (I did some polls here in Fakku) download stuff because:
1. We cannot find it in our area.
2. It's too expensive.
Hope it gives you the big picture.

I TOTALLY agree with you on those 2 polls.
They should make products more cheaper online and if they did that than millions would buy original quality music/movie/other entertainment online and they would get richer every day and our pockets wouldn't be gushing out like a samurai movie.

As a firm believer in the underground economy, any legislation that hampers transactions between private citizens threatens my livelihood.
But, if I were a record company, I would actively ignore piracy. With radio on the decline, the old distribution model is failing dramatically. The only way to reach people, is to offer it as a download. Most pirates will buy their favourites, to support the artist. This increases the listening audience for the company, and encourages the company to stop hiring shit artists.
Paranoia Addendum:
The language in both of these bills creates a "regulatory agency" that could be used to sniff unorthodoxy. No one group of individuals should hold the key to the flow of information, from the new Cake album to political strategy. This is the most direct way to a "Mirror's Edge" style dystopia.

Since this is a moderately serious discussion, i will say this first. "I am laughing so freaking hard at you right now"
Even if piracy goes away, do you really think the prices will go down? No company in the last 100 years has brought their prices down unless they are bankrupt. Why do think they would start now?
The movie producing companies are money hungry and nothing is going to change that anytime soon. I would prefer piracy, to forking out to their greed.
