Retired Official FAKKU Mobile App
1

I'm sure many of you have been looking for a way to read your favorite doujinshi on the go, or even have it play as a slideshow for hands free "enjoyment", right?
WELL, WAIT NO LONGER! There's an official FAKKU Mobile app on the Play Store.
Download Android FAKKU App (v1.0.1)
* Mirror'd on Google Drive until we come up with a more permanent solution.
Features
- Latest Content
- Sort by Latest, Popular, Favorites, and Controversial
- Search
- Endless Scroll
Don't FAKKU Apps already exist?
Yes, some unofficial ones may exist. Majority of them work by scrapping the website, resulting in higher load times.
How is this official?
It's utilizing the FAKKU API and has Jacob's 'official seal of approval' / I work with Jacob :p We kicked around the idea back in maybe like.. 2013? But finally I had some free time and busted the app out in a few days before Anime Expo 2014.
Will this be open sourced?
Would you like it to be? Lemme know :)
Will there be more features added?
Yes, there are plans for offline reading, favorite saving, account login / management.
Will this be on iPhone?
We have the capability of porting this to iPhone right now. But I wanna see how this one does first before jumping over to that :)
Who are you?
I go by the online alias Kisuka. I work with Jacob.
I found some issues in the app, what do?
Please report them here for the time being :)

How long before this gets removed from Play store I wonder? We shall see. Pixiv hasn't been removed yet and theres R18+ content on there sooo... no idea yet. If it does get removed we'll look into different options. There would still be the option of sideloading the APK.

If you are going to make the IOS version will it be able to be in the App Store or in those jail broken apps
That let's you DL cracked apps?
Apple is going to verify the app for anything that doesn't reach the
Requirements so I think adding the independent IPA file on the forums would be a good suggestion

It would indeed not be on the AppStore since it's adult content, which Apple prohibits pretty hard.

Well i have some suggestions.
It would be very nice if you could leave the app with the back button. So far it can only be exited through the home button and then it's still active in the background.
If you open a hyperlink, it gets opened in the app(options for opening in browser would be nice) and looks awful(either proper scaling or not allowing to open them in the app). Also, in this case I opened the fakku dev site and got stuck on it because I can't use the back button or anthing, so I have to force close the app and start it again to go back to the start page.
stuck on the dev site:
When reading, there is a bit of lag in animations when swiping to another page or opening the little preview on the bottom. I am using the Note 3 as a device, so I think my phone should not be too weak for that

I am currently developing a desktop application in Java using the API FAKKU released. However I keep getting a 403 response each time I try to get JSON from FAKKU. How did you go about getting and parsing the JSON?
you can find more a twitter conversation about it here

Can you connect to the normal website with the same code? It may just be that things aren't setup properly, should also avoid https until you know what's wrong.

Sure thing. I'll change the code so if you hit the 'back' button on the main screen it exits the app. I'll also update it so external links open in the browser. I'll also check the settings on the gallery to reduce those animations, as it should be fast an responsive.
Thank you for the input :)

This isn't the topic to discuss that but lemme just help you out really quick. Next time make a topic asking for help as to not hijack the post ^^;
jsoup is for http parsing, not json, basically it's meant for webpage scraping.
For json responses you'd wanna use something like gson:
https://code.google.com/p/google-gson/
For fixing the 403 error, you need to pass a User-Agent to the connection like so:
URLConnection con = new URL("https://api.fakku.net/search/paizuri").openConnection();
con.addRequestProperty("User-Agent", "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:25.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/25.0");
After getting the response you'll wanna dump it into an object using GsonBuilder(), fromJson() and a class that matches the json response.

Can you add auto-loading? Using the time a person takes to read to load more pages. For sure. It SHOULD be already doing it but lemme double check the code to see what's going on.

Awesome work.
Is there any chance that you could add some caching? I've had some luck with the RoboSpice libraries previously, but there are quite a few libraries out there now.
I'd love to lend a hand too, opensource or not.

Thank you very much for developing such an awesome app for an awesome website!

I have to say great work on the app!
There are a few things id like to see added though! (I know a few were stated, but im listing them anyways.)
- Account Login.
- Additions to favourites.
- Viewing of favourites.
- Resizing of the viewing buttons.
- The ability to show/hide viewing gui.
- On/Off feature to allow tapping of the image to go to the next page.
- Download button (For the ones that include a DL link.)
- Subscription additions/management.
*If I think of more I'll edit this post.*
Edit 1:
- Ability to see if manga is English/日本語.
Ideally id like to see this app replace my need for viewing Fakku through my browser on my phone. The Fakku site is not optimized for mobile devices and can sometimes be unforgiving or frustrating. This app has a lot of promise, but still has a journey ahead of it.
Can't wait to see what next for this app!
