Online Dating

I just want to know what people's opinions are when it comes to this. I always see commercials advertising about this and i think to myself "Those people must be desperate for love to try this out". I think its fake,the internet is a crazy place you never know who could be out there, Know what i mean? With all of the types of people the world has its hard to tell who is who. I say no to this,i just find it weird.For example somebody can pretend to be another person for the attention , You know nothing about that other person besides on what is written on their profile. I mean like how hard is it to pick up a girl/guy? Its not hard at all. I also find online dating dangerous. You never know that perfect guy/girl can actually be a serial killer.

I'd be less worried about rape and crazy shit and more about simple misrepresentations. Slight lies about weight, mood, income, height, interests.

Do galges on the Internet count as Online dating?

and... if you meet people in real life, isn't there a chance they could be rapist? But I would head towards more of the mainstream sites and when you meet them, make it a double date with someone you trust!

I met two ex-bfs online, and they were just fine. Set up the first few dates (I'd say at least 5) in a public places, and let someone know who you're with, where you are, and what you're doing. Most people online are just regular folks, just like you and me.

Oh wait, we're on a hentai site, so that makes us quite irregular now, doesn't it?

There is a Good and Bad side to this.
Good: Its easier to find people who have the same interest as you, could be the "One" Or just for fun.
Bad: People lie and people lie on their photos, thus wasting your time.

Its good to webcam to each other before you meet up, so you can avoid the bullshit.

Real Life Example: My Uncle met his Wife (6 years now) online, very good for him. He is very happy with his 2 daughters and now living in the UK.

Varies. A lot out there are liars. But, some out there are good. I know two who are good and they're relationship is working so well to the point one was over the other house in a whole another state for 3 weeks. They are the only online couple that i know that actually is and have worked.

The "Prince charming" is actually a rapist/child predator hitting on single mum's.

If anything, there is a significantly lower chance of meeting a rapist online. The vast majority of rape cases happen with a guy that the girl already knows (friend, colleague, etc).

Online dating is great. People are busy nowadays with school, work, friends, family, their hobbies...
Technology also connected us in a way that made us all more disconnected. We no long gather regularly in one place so that we can meet each other in our community.

How hard is it to pick up a girl if you're a guy? Extremely hard for the vast majority of guys. It's easy, for the small subset of guys that have the ability.
How hard is it to pick up a guy if you're a girl? Easy. Getting laid is a choice for most girls, it's a chore for guys.

But, it's hard to meet someone 'right' for both genders. You can screen through people very fast online.

On the other hand, don't think that online dating is easy. If you can't get a date in real life, you still can't get a date online.

I also think that getting to know someone first on-line is way better and safer than first meeting him/her in person. Even if he/she lies (in both on-line and real life cases you can not know it), his mannerism will give it away eventually... in my case it's easier and faster to figure it on-line, but works differently with other people.

Anyway, like Neko-hime, I met two girls already (on into poly-whatever they call casual sex these days, the other lead to short-term relationship) and both went fine, we had a great time. The main advantage you have with on-line dating sites is that you can search their users, to find people with similar interests, since it is extremely difficult to find in bars, or even through friends and acquaintances people who have uncommon interests or personality traits :p

Now these said, as with real life, there is an abundance of idiots, creeps, and perverts in dating sites, here is an example. But in real life these types can force you into very dangerous situations, while on-line you can ignore, ban, or troll them safely XD

The last couple of girls I know came from Online Dating Sites. One girl I was close to having a relationship with (but I screwed up and waited to damn long and she went to someone else) and currently I'm talking to two girls that I met on a dating site. It's not really weird anymore to go to a dating site. My main problem is that I'm not normally around people who have the same type of interests that I have and that I'm busy with work and school.

Most people are just like you or me. Normally I talk to them in on the dating site e- mail (if they can't reply with me then I include my e-mail in the message) then we talk for a while on a IM program and meet them in real life a little bit later. Normally we meet at a huge public area like a museum or public park. Most of my friends know who I'm meeting and at what time. If everything goes well I'd ask them out on a date a few months later after getting to know them in real life more.

Its very common to find love on the internet, as long as your are careful with how you go about it. And there is also the trust that is needed as well.

My usual stance about these is that even I'm not that desperate.

Not my thing but I would like to give it a try.

Unless ur a guy most women find attractive, or with a shitload of money, or a woman, dating sites are a failure just waiting to happen.....

I am not ugly but I am nothing special, I don't stand out in any way, I'm just an average guy (now, before with that long ass hair I stood out but not in a good way)

I've never been to online dating sites, and even if I was single, I wouldnt even consider them.

But, I met my bf online 7 years ago and we're still together. Met on some irc channel, talked for months, met and here we are living together now. And my mother met his current husband online through some community or something, and they are happy too :)
