The post office will take care of everything, however most photo places will do passport pictures cheaper. If I remember right, Passports cost about $100 (I might be exaggerating.) But I think most Postal offices charge about $15-$20 for a passport image and they don't care how it'll look.
If you go to a photo place, like one of those small ones inside a Wal-Mart (that's where I got mine) At most they'll charge you $10. So if you're looking to save some money just have them take it there, they'll give it to you right away and just hand it to the post office when you go to fill out the forms.

It's $110 now. PLUS the pictures and what not. Almost $150.

i had to pay for the picture, which i got at a pharmacy, then I went to the place directly (remember I'm in Ottawa) and stood in line for 15 minutes and was out of there with a new passport in the mail (3 days later)

That's a lot of shit you have to go through just to get a passport. You'd think they'd just do all 3 there and be able to get you your passport the same day but bureaucracy is a bitch.

If you're going to Canada by car, I'm not sure if its the same - but I remember you can just get this card which is much cheaper. But you can't use it if you use a plane.

Well, IF YOU WANT, I can look into it.
I still have the receipt.
If I were you, just get a ID Card, it's a LOT Cheaper then getting a Passport Book.
It's maybe 40-60 Bucks.

Odd, I was told different.
Yeah, just look up the prices at the post office.
If I were you, go to Costco or Walmart and have a picture taken. It comes out much cheaper.
