Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

The proposed story for the fourth film is for Jack Sparrow and Barbossa to meet up in the newly founded New Orleans, before they sail to find the Fountain of Youth together. Geoffrey Rush and Johnny Depp have confirmed that they will be returning to their roles as Barbossa and Jack Sparrow. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley have both stated that they will not be reprising their roles of Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, believing that their characters' storylines have been concluded in "At World's End". Mackenzie Crook also announced he would not be reprising his role of Ragetti, stating "They haven't asked me. But actually I don't mind that at all. I'm a fan of the first one especially and I think the trilogy we've made is great. I'd almost like them to leave it there." It was confirmed that Rob Marshall would direct the film. Bruckheimer stated he intends to begin filming in June 2010. The film is set for release on May 20, 2011.
I'm glad that Depp and Rush are reprising their roles cause without them the franchise would suck, but I'm more worried about the fact that Rob Marshall is directing this one and not Gore Verbinski cause we all know that about 90% of the time when a new director takes over it fails. Also, on the DVD cover of POTC 3 it says "The final chapter of the trilogy". Then, why the hell are they making a 4th film? I know the ending in "At World's End" gave us the hint that there would be a 4th film, but I just have bad feelings about this one. Still, I'll watch it just cause of Depp and Rush.

When I read the first line of that summary I thought it was a joke at first. I do love Jonny in this role, he does it well, and it's pretty clear that he loves that character, buuut I was also under the impression that we were done with this. I'm not saying that it will necessarily be bad, but it's hard to get a positive feeling for it.

I say it should be Black Beard and the actor that should play him is Gerard Butler.

The 3rd Pirates movie wasn't very good IMO, so I'm hoping this one will revive the franchise for me; as the article made it sound like a semi-fresh new start on the series.
I'm really expecting something good...?

I kind of want to watch this one cuz I just want to see what would happen without the bad romance, and if it just became all comedy.

I'm just thinkin that the directors and the studio is milking the franchise. I agree that the whole point of POTC is to see Depp and the odd clashes but if theyre just fillin out the movie with no plot line at all or character development and just replace it with the comeddic ramblings of Jack Sparrow, its gonna bomb out. Still im waiting for it to come out out of curiosity.

Trailer is up and I'm set for this movie. Ian McShane as Black Beard is gonna be fucking awesome. Also, Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush reprising their roles as Jack and Barbossa is even more awesome.

This looks pretty good. I've also found out that Disney plans to make two more Pirates of the Caribbean movies after this one. The bad news is: Johnny Depp might not be coming back for the final two T_T

not to shabby...this looks pretty cool. Mermaids, Zombies and hell why not Blackbeard the Pirate, sounds like a fun time. and I still love that epic music during the trailers...perfect sword fighting music!

I couldn't imagine Pirates of the Caribbean without Jack Sparrow. Now would the same rule apply to Geoffry Rusch? Those two are like chocolate and peanut butter for the series.

I... gah, I looked at the end of the Third Movie as more of a 'Semi-open' ending. I mean, Will's in his place and Elizabeth will wait while Barbossa and Jack are doing their Pirate things but separately. Not as a lead-in to a new movie, but as a send-off for each character into the rest of their lives that we wouldn't be seeing (Lol, until this movie that is).
There wasn't REALLY a need for another Movie on the Franchise, all in all (to me) this is a spin-off that smells of a cash-grab...
But, it really depends on how they do it, and I'm not saying it's definitely not going to be a good movie. Rush and Depp are both amazing actors, Barbossa and Sparrow are both terrific characters.
So, I'll wait and see but as far as history goes, generally spin-offs suck but there's always the exceptions. :)

I'm definitely excited for another pirate movie! but this one doesn't seem as epic as the first was. One good thing is that the love triangle between elizabeth, jack, and will is gone. But still I hope they at least make a cameo, though it wouldn't make sense. If this movie starts at the end of At World's End then Elizabeth would be home with a kid and Will aboard the Duthchman.
