It is Pizza night at my home.
And this has crossed my mind yet again
What is healthy?
Hoo-boy, here we go.
Well: the meat group
Lean meat like chicken and beef are considered healthy
As is pepperoni, sausage, ham, fish, ect.
Pepperoni and beef are in no way healthy, the way they are prepared on pizza. In fact, they contribute to the greasiness of it, as both meats store a lot of oils. The same could be said of fish, but it just depends on how the fish is cooked beforehand.
Fruit and vegetables group
Also peppers, Pineapples, tomatoes, onions, and many others
I'll give you that one, veggies and fruit on pizza is slightly better than meats.
Bread and cereal group
Milk and cheese group
The crust is probably the healthiest thing on a pizza, since it's just baked bread. Dairy is only healthy in moderation, and depending on how much you eat you're getting -way- too much in conjunction with everything else. And, as was stated before, depending on if you have a meat topping it's most likely saturated in fat.
All are on the US governments list of healthy foods.
So I ask “WHY” If you combine all these in the order that you prefer is it now “Junk Food”
It sounds like a joke but when you look on the list the government list as junk food I have to ask Why?
Is Pizza Junk Food?
My opinion? Yes, it's junk food, mainly because of the aforementioned grease. If you use organic cheeses, organic sauce and a good crust while taking out the meats, then yeah. Pizza (in moderation) can be healthy. But the majority of people I know love their meat-covered monstrosity.
[size=10]...as do I.
Disclaimer: I am in no way an authority on healthy eating nor living well. Quite fankly, I was a fatass who lucked into dropping 100lbs due to stress, near starvation and excessive amounts of manual labour. Take my opinion how you may.[/h]
