Printscreen help
0
I was unsure if I was to put this in the Computer & Technology forum since it is on my computer but it still didn't seem like that kind of problem.
Move it if it has to be moved!
Back on topic.
I use VLC to watch anime and hentai.
And at some occasions I want to printscreen the VLC window and just paste it into photoshop.
But for some reason whenever I press the Printscreen button it just gives me blank when I paste it, any ideas why?
I know it wasn't like this before but I did something to VLC and now it just gives me blank shit. It sucks, really.
So if anyone could help that'd be appriciated.

Press the "Pause" Button when you want to make a screenshot then click on "Video" and then on "Snapshot".
The Program makes now a screenshot and save it into "My Documents\My Pictures".
To change the snapshot format or directory, go to Extras -> Preferences -> Video -> Video snapshot directory.

Have you tried disabling overlay mode (ie hardware acceleration)? There's also a snapshot option video>snapshot (Ctrl+Alt+S)

All I know that is if I paste the printscreen into photoshop and keep the VLC running photoshop will follow, somehow.
It just won't stick.
But I guess I'll use the snapshot thingy instead.

The overlay option renders video directly from your video card, so it doesn't actually go through windows, which is why the screen turns out blank when you try to paste it into PS using print screen. Having it disabled should make it go through windows and be able to be captured using print screen.
Although that's my understanding of the function. It worked out for me at least when I had this issue.

This sounds strange though

I mean blank, as in all black.
Like, if I keep VLC running, it follows and doesn't stick.
But if I close VLC it turns black.
So if I printscreen something from VLC using the PRNTSCRN button, close VLC and then try to paste it all I get is black.

I know that (from previous posts) but what I want to know is why doesn't VLC stick when I use the Windows Printscreen button on it?

Yeah I meant blank as in black too. But if the pasted screen changes upon you closing VLC then I might be able to relate it to another issue I've had before which was left unsolved (long time ago). My best guess is that it's a codec issue, but I might be wrong on that.
Either way, have you tried disabling the overlay at least? Wouldn't hurt to try.

Define overlay please, I'm super tired so I have a hard time fitting things in.
Also, it started after I pushed some weird button combination with VLC open.
I have no idea what I pushed but it definately fucked shit up.

On newer VLC versions it should be in Tools>Preferences>video and untick the Accelerated video output (Overlay) box. Restarting VLC might be needed too.

Don't use the button use
search
print screen.. unless your key board has a fn key then press it with the prt sc button.
It's easier just to use the default tab on the video players or snipping tool.

It worked! Atleast I think it did...
Thank you anyway!

Glad to help. Also if you're unsure you've messed up any options before, there's always the "Reset Preferences" button that restores all options to default
