For those of you who don't know about this USA network has a show by the name of Psych absolutely fantastic show. It features the adventures of Fake Psychic Sean Spencer, who is able to notice the minute details in a manner similar to the ultimate detective Sherlock Holmes.
Two years after the release of Psych CBS develops the mentalist, a show about a former fake psych, now super detective, with several references to his near supernatural powers of observation.
The question is... which side is right? does Psych have the right to make jokes or is The Mentalist safe in its similarities?

Psych is a great show I love it.
But the mentalist was obviously spawned by Psych so they have more than a right to say hey your show is just our show without the funny, and you guys are just like copycats. Though most shows today are I mean look at every cop show on now.... Yeah.
Oh and the Mentalist I have to say.... well sucks. What makes Psych good is the funny and without that the show is just a lame detective show.

Pysch is hilarious. Easily the second best show on USA behind Burn Notice. And it's just one of my favorite shows all together.
Never seen The Mentalist. I have a few simple rules about television, and one of them is - If it's on CBS, I don't watch it. The only exception being Big Bang Theory which I'd say I watch occasionally at best.

And I don't even think there's any ill will, just a chance to make a joke about a series that basically copied what they did (which is what 90% of TV shows are).
I've never seen The Mentalist, and I've never wanted to. I've seen quite a bit of Psych, and it is very funny, and that is the best thing about it. Most mystery shows are identical, and it's up to the script and characters to make it stand out and be worth watching. Psych does a wonderful job of that.

as far as the shows go i think they are different routes of the same type of show...much like you can compare csi to ncis personally of the two i prefer psych
