Purchasing: PS3 vs. PS Vita
0
I'm trying to choose between a PSVita and a PS3.
Pros:
PSV: Region free, I have project diva F sitting here, sealed, and really want to play it, also hoping for CFW. Can carry it around so I'd have more chances to play it.
PS3: Region free, unlike the 360. I could put CFW on it, play online for free with friends, way more good games than vita. uses regular HD for storage. I could play idolm@ser 2!!
Cons:
PSV: Not very many good games out for it. No CFW yet, proprietary storage. After I'm done with Diva, I probably won't touch it until it has CFW or I get Persona for it.
PS3: I don't see myself using this very much after the initial obsession with it. Already have a gaming computer so less reason to have a tv console.
Things that may help me make my decision.
PSV: If it can somehow play/stream mkvs, play psp backups of my umds.
PS3: If it can somehow play/stream mkvs, play backups of my umds and if possible gamecube games.
Additional info:
Already have a psp, along with iPhone and note II, these all together have the functions of a PSV without the exclusive games.
I don't really play my 360 anymore so i don't see myself using a PS3 very much, it'll probably just end up as a bluray player, which I could just buy for my desktop
Now I'm having a tough time deciding, I want to get the PSV but that seems like a waste compared to all that the PS3 has to offer. Also I'm assuming that the PS3 will get a price drop once the PS4 is released so i might have to hold off on that.
Any idea what I should go for?
I'm also open to other suggestions.
EDIT: can someone clarify, if I am correct, the PS3 Super Slim finally got CFW
recently right? Cuz I'm seeing mixed stuff. I'd rather get that if it does have CFW.

Can't play mkv on vita stocked nor use iso from umd dump. If you had a Japanese account at one time they had a umd something that scan the disk and gave you a dl code or something. Im not sure if they when though the thing or not. You can even play non avc mp4 on the vita.

When I mentioned somehow playing/streaming mkvs and umd dumps, I was assuming it would be through the use of CFW, which doesn't really exist for it yet.

Nintendo 3DS for the pokemon.Got one at US Launch. The extra money wasn't really worth the free DLs they gave us.
Can't wait for X and Y. On a side note. Nintendo better come out with a hoenn remake soon, or else heads will start rolling.

Make yourself a Japanese psn account, then get yourself a vita with an 8 gig card. You'll get project diva, PSO2, djmax technika tune, and all the other goodies.
Us market has disgaea, technika tune, and persona 4 the golden going for it really.
Of course a ps3 now still has a lot of variety, you'd be much happier with it in the long run I'd say considering its vast library.

Ya I was planning on making one. And that's why I'm hesitating with the Vita, cut the PS3 seems to be more bang for your buck.
But a PS3 price drop is still somewhat far away, and Project diva F is just sitting here, mocking me, and that's pissing me off. Also, I believe they dropped the price of the Vita in Japan, what are the chances Sony will do that here anytime soon?
So with all this in mind, I'm still very confused on what to do. As of now, I'm going with a Vita.

I bought a PS3 knowing fully well that I don't have much time to play. I also have a PSP, but I barely play with it anymore due to time constraints, but I still use it everyday as an MP3 player.
I bought my PS3 just for Idolm@ster 2, and so that I could follow my other favorite series such as Super robot Wars, Ar Tonelico and the Atelier series, plus Valkyria Chronicles and Gundam Extreme Versus.
As it is, it's still very viable to go with the PS3 just because of the vast library of games that it already has, and the various mods that you can already do with it. The PSV will eventually be modded, but I think it's important to have maximum fun while you still can instead of waiting for developments with the PSV. So I'd suggest go with the PS3.

Very convincing, pointed out some very good points, and I could always get Project Diva f for the PS3. Also, im@s 2 is probably one of the bigger reasons why I want a PS3.

I'd go for the ps3. The vita, for me at least, has too many cons to even consider it. The majority of the games on the vita I can easily get for the ps3 without issue.
Another issue is the number of time I see a someone in public with a vita. I don't see anyone with one at all in my area. Everyone either has a 3ds or a psp. The odds of being able to enjoy some local multiplayer with a few others with vitas is very slim.

More valid points. I figured the PS3 would be the better option, I guess I just needed others to tell me so I wouldn't feel like I'm messing up.

I'd go for the PS3. I have both and love my Vita, but the PS3 has a much bigger library and I believe that the new ones can still play PS1 discs. The best reason I have for the PS3? It's so versatile. Netflix? Check. Blu-ray? check. Games? F**k yeah. The Vita is nice, but (ignoring the PS1 games now available for it) has a very small library. The only game I really play on it is Persona 4, even though I have about a dozen games downloaded on it. Honestly, the Blu-Ray playability is one of the main reasons I bought it originally. (The other being a console I can play whenever I want and my little brother had no ability to hog)
