Reccomend a graphic tablet?
0
I have a friend of mine who is looking to purchase a graphic tablet for her daughter. I personally know little about them, but she is looking to spend around $150-$200. Does anyone have a good brand that they would recommend or a specific model that is in that price range?
On this same topic I am personally looking for one myself to practice doing light photoshop stuff. I am not an artist by no means but for editing and touch ups I thought it might be nice to invest in one for myself. What would be a somewhat decent one that is rather cheap...say...under $50?

I recommend Wacom, intous, I personally use them and they're reliable and in the budget. And for ones below $50, this one.

If it's her first tablet, it's a waste to go all out from the get go. Go for a mid range tablet. I recommend a Wacom Bamboo Pen. It's around the 50 dollar mark and it's a really good tablet.
For yourself, since you don't need the kind of precision that artists need, you could try and find yourself a Bamboo One. I'm not sure if those are still fabricated and sold. If not, go for the same as the girl.
ps: Don't get the pen&touch. The touch functionalities are not worth the extra 20-30 dollars. They are actually a hindrance.
ps2: As far as tablets are concerned, more expensive does not necessarily mean you will draw better with it. You can easily produce professional quality material with the tablet I mentioned. The only things the more expensive tablets can benefit from is a larger working surface, more programmable buttons, more pen nibs and perhaps some software; i.e. stuff that you will only be able to benefit from if you are already experienced.

Thanks for suggestions. I do kinda want to venture out in digital art, but perhaps one for myself would be a foolish waste of money at the moment.
I am honestly not sure how much experience her daughter has. I mean parents always love to dote on their child's talents, so it may be best to recommend a cheaper one.

Kuroneko's right. More expensive tablets aren't necesarily better. But still, I bought a Pen&Touch, rather than a Bamboo Pen for a couple of reasons.
The Touch functionality wasn't one of them.
First off, the pen in the Pen&Touch has more pressure levels.
Secondly, the tablet has 4 programmable Express Keys, which are suprisingly useful. You know, Undo/Redo, Next/Previous, whatever...
And also, the Pen&Touch Pen has an eraser, if you care to use it.
Don't get a "Special Edition" or a "Fun Edition" one, because the only other thing you get is software (and 4 finger touch functionality, which I suppose you wouldn't need...).
But, then again, the Pen is slightly bigger and heavier, and depending on how much you want to use it, or how you want to use it, the bigger price tag may or may not be worth it. It's all up to your friend, of course.
Like I said, I own a Pen&Touch and I'm very pleased with it.

Oh wow, you're right. I didn't even know that. Good thing I didn't get the pen version then.
Kairu, scratch the recommendation I made, go for the pen&touch (for the girl). The keys are absolutely essential. Not having them is like not having legs.

the bamboo is fairly good. I just got mine 3 weeks ago but I got a habit of using a mouse+pad at same time.

I've seen a few guides and I've found this one to be the most accurate. And just for the record, I'd ignore any brand that isn't wacom, pretty much no matter which one you'll choose will still have you going flawlessly.

I recomend Wacom cintiq it only cots $3000 :D:D:D .(Wish of every drawer). But now seriously Wacom intous and bamboo are nice, but problem is that they are really small,i might recommend you Tooya pro See here .Sure wacom has best tablets, but if you're interested in size this one is good. Also try gathering up to $350 and you can actually get Live Tablet, where you can actually see what you're doing.Good luck
