Ronnie James Dio died today. I'm at a loss for words and literally have tears in my eyes. I can't express properly the way I feel about this in my current state. Dio was 67 and kept recording & touring until his passing. I've always looked up to him (which is strange because he's quite a bit shorter than me) and saw him as both an icon and a fine example of a human being in general. He is one of the few people in the "scene" that never showed his age, never lost his powerful voice, always was a pleasure to listen to and an intellectual as well. This hits me very hard as I've been a fan for ages and I feel the loss of "our" cultural leader/elder (metal) right now. I can only hope this binds us all together and helps stop the stupid feuding and general divisiveness that is running rampant in our circles now. You'll be missed little giant and your voice will always command the thunder to call back whenever it is heard. /emo eulogy

Sabbath was/is/always will be my favorite band. Dio helped bring epic stories to life; stuff I'll never want to get out of my head. Though I hadn't listened to my Dio Years album in a long while (because someone who used to be close to me fucking scratched it to shit), I'll never forget "Heaven and Hell". First and best album I ever bought...

I can't say anything about Dio other than compare him with Ozzy for heading Black Sabbath, and it's a shame that Ozzy keeps on kickin' with half a functioning brain and Dio passed as a lucid man, but then again, you guys have something to be thankful for, some heroes really don't go out like heroes...
