Scary Movies

[size=10]OK, so I just watched the movie Insidious and if you know me, you'll know that I CANNOT handle scary movies. I have probably watched most of the recent scary movies in the past 6 years due to my friends dragging me into the theater against my will. /SOB You'd think I'd develop a resistance by now to scary movies but HAHHAHAHAno.
While I'm watching it, my sweater is like wrapped around my face like a damn turban and I can barely see ANYTHING but I'm still scared shitless. And after the movie, I'm like, "PSHHH! That wasn't so bad! I'm not that weak, I can handle this man, I can handaw dis!" And then I get home where it's dark and I'm like OHSHITIMGONNADIE.
So yeah, what's the scariest movie/moment in a movie that you ever saw? Very curious but descriptions only, PLEASE DON'T POST A PHOTO. Or I'll probably get a heart attack and piss my pants. And when I do, I'll find you and haunt you forever and make you cry manly tears by deleting all your pronz.[/h]

Now since I can rationalize and am a skeptic of the supernatural I just reason that it's not scientifically possible. As a child however I couldn't do any of that so I had the WORST dreams. Anyways I pick The Ring. First scary movie I ever watched at the age of 12 had nightmares for a week no joke.

Mmm, nothing really scares me anymore OP scary movies of the modern day (to my experience) employ the same strategies to scare you and to be quite frank, it's getting stale. But I remember when I watched HP:Sorcerer's Stone Voldemort's ghastly form kept me up at night as a kid. Just something about the way he merged into the back of that guy's head...DISGUSTING.

Except when I got older and I noticed there was a scene where Professor Quirrel got hit in the back of his head by something. I think it was like a snowball or he fell backwards or something and I was like LOL VOLDEMORT YOU JUST FACEFLOORED.[/h]

Scary movies are not scary movies, since they all rely on the jump tactic- it would be more accurate to call them "Surprise" movies.
And the plot for the vast majority of them are so downright terrible.
Whenever I go see any horror flick, it is with the full intention of naught but outright derision- as they have been reduced (in my eyes, anyways) as just really gory comedies.
The Silent Hill and Fatal Frame games are kinda freaky, though- I'll give 'em that. If there's one thing the Japanese excel at, it's horror. (I've seen a number of Japanese horror flicks- those are a helluva lot scarier than absolutely anything to have ever been released this side of the planet- I blame our Soccer Mom society for that).

Im not overly fond of scary movies either but I do love hack-and-slash type horror films because the guys who are gonna die atleast stand a chance... Oh their gonna die all right but HYPOTHETICALLY they have a chance! (Like what Arnold Schwarzenegger says in Predator:~ "If It Bleeds... We Can Kill It")
The films I cant stand are the ones where theres an "unseen enemy" or ones where people are put into pussy ass traps by some trolling faggot.
I liked The Grudge and The Ring (Not the shit yank versions though) because I can admire the story they're putting across, Quite artistic with delicious "bad ends". :D
Whenever you go to the cinema you tend to 'man up'... "Pffft, Shit wasnt scary" but if I was in a big dark cinema all alone id probably soil myself. (Part of the 'fun' though having that shit~your~pants tension)

Well for me it has to be Paranormal Activity(the only one that i remember for the moment) since i believed that the movie was real lol(i didn't google it first)but now i kinda hate it since it was just a shitty made up story. Anyway the scariest scene of this movie has to be .......................................................
SPOILER
...............................when the girl was dragged out of her bed, and also when she laughed at the end................. SPOILER END
I also completely agree with PumpJack McGee that Japanese can make a lot scarier movies than anyone else.
EDIT: i also want to say that the thing that has scared the shit out of me(one of the not too many) was the manga Uzumaki(by Junji Ito) which is probably because i was reading it in total darkness and it really hooked me up and i was completely immersed into the story.

Unfortunately I don't get scared by movies, like at all, soooooo... I'll go with REC, just because the ending made me jump a little.

The scariest movie that I have ever seen is the one where I have forgotten everything about the movie except for this one scene (yes, I even forgot the name of the movie, was so long ago). The scene is where some mad man has some people locked up in a room (no its not Saw), and one of them is strapped to a table in the center of the room. Like really strapped down. All of the sudden, two circular saws start descending to the end of the table near the feet of the person on the table. The saws go into the grooves on the table, and start heading up the table. The person is screaming like there is no tomorrow (quite right, for him/her). All the sudden the blades start sawing into the person, no blood though (was kinda of a old cheap movie, probably pre-80s), and it went all the way up the person until the blades appeared from their head. When the blades retracted, and the restraints lifted, the two sides of the person fell to the floor and all you could see was the area in between where the two blades had cut. You could see everything that was essentially inside a person by that remaining body piece, which was almost paper thin, and up at the brain, there was a disc like object which was the whole reason for this mad man to cut up people.
I can't remember anything else of this movie, though. I even tried asking my father, who is a movie maniac, and even he doesn't know. And I distinctly remember seeing this movie when I was younger. Oh the nightmares I had.

I remember two old scary movies that used to be my favorites, "Screamers" and "Leviathan". If you're three years old and watching a movie about murderous robots (one was a teddy bear like mine at the time) or a film about a mutant russian sea snake(?) terrorizing an underwater research station, you'll remember them for a long while.

Yeah, I'm pretty resistant to scary movies too, but as Jacky says, the Japanese (and Korean) scary movies are better than any stupid Western scary movie.
I will say though, that I absolutely cannot stand scary films with dolls in them. Or needles. *shudders* Other scary films involving ghosts or whatever shit is perfectly fine.

I rather like horror as a genre. Even if the main plot is rarely nothing special, it gives a lot of space for more creative edings. That is a huge plus in my books. I have nothing personal against happy endings either, but the odds of them being boring compared to unhappy endings is rather high.
As for favourites, 'Tale of Two Sisters' is one I could recommend. Yes, it's a Japanese one. Along with Koreans they do the best horror films.
I liked The Ring, The Grudge and Saw as well, but more so as stand alones than as a part of a series. In those the idea, the fresh concept was the most interesting, and the following parts don't have that anymore. (I liked Saw 3 though. There was such a... high moral somehow, it felt refreshing . :D)

If The Shining didn't scare the piss out of you, you are truly a man of steel. That shit is creepy as hell, and then some

I've always been partial to Hellraiser as my bar for horror. But Clive Barker in general is better than most, shame a lot of the movies tend to be blah.

I totally agree that Japanese horror movies (and similar genres like suspense, etc) are way more creepier than American ones, I was scared to hell when I saw the Japanese trilogy of "A missing call" (the american version sucked)
I didn't had nightmares because of that...but damn, I didn't wanted to know of, see, touch or even get close to my cellphone for a whole month...

insidious was by the same people who made paranormal activity. therefore it is incapable of phasing me in any way. pretty much any ghost/devil thing thats not based on true events, but is made out to be, doesn't scare me much.
i'd have to say the only movie i've seen that i've thought i would be scared to death afterwords would be slither. it made me feel sick for a while afterwords. but i didn't actually had nightmares. i cant remember the last time i had nightmares from a movie.
EDIT- actually i eat my words. there was a japanese film called infection or something similar where everyones blood turned green that creeped me out.
EDITEDIT- godamn i keep forgetting things. In the mouth of madness creeped me out. stupid spider walk lady.

The exorcist movies have somekind of demonic pull on me. Avoiding movies like that now a days. Nightmare on Elm Street "The Dream Child" probably was the scariest Freddy Kruger movie I've ever saw.

I lost my fear of horror film at the age of 7, but man when the ring came out... Especially the VHS version where they show you the Cursed video before the Actual movie and the Trailers, That freaked me the fuck out.
Then in high school I saw the Exorcist, the movie made me jump quite a few times, especially this one particular scene where for a split second you see a face in the darkness before the door opens.
That face... it still haunts me...
