secret hobby

whilst thinking away to myself i only noticed today that only a few people i know, know that i collect figures
(well everyone i know knows now cos i posted it on FB i collect them :P)

it set me to thinking whio else here keeps there collection secret ???

i already let it out in the open that i collect Gunplas,Figurines,Manga,Doujins and other otaku related stuff but only some of the people actually knows/remember about it.

Some know because they went on my computer and looked at my history

nobody knows, mainly because I have no one to tell. Then again, considering I only have two figures, I wouldn't really call it a "collection".

People know that I am an otaku through and through, but very few people find that collect figures and the sort.

Just family, family friends, and friends at school who are also otaku. Oh, and I have to add, did you notice that instead of having a "Gay-dars" we have "otaku radars?" You can tell if they like anime by the way they look. Hahaha, profiling:) I asked my friend if he could tell I was an otaku and he said "yeah, I knew when I fist saw you." WTF!

For figurines, I'm sure everyone knows since I posted them on FB. As for hentai mangas and doujins, only a few know.

I'm a diehard dakimakura collector, and only two people in my real life circle of friends/family knows I even own one... much less a hundred or two.

Why keep a secret something so wonderful like that?

A hobby such as this is on a need-to-know basis.

Some of my friends don't know, and classmates.. Those that are close to me know that I collect gunpla and other stuff. Yeah, only a handful of people knows that I'm somewhat of an otaku.

Some people know, they don't care. They just tell me "nice collection".

I don't really know that many people actually, ofc most of my friends(as in friends I'd hangout with and invite to my house) know. I don't just randomly tell ppl I know/work with/ see once a month or two that I am an otaku, nor do I wear anime shirt etc when I do go out. But friend wise, they all pretty much know.

Yeah but for some reason, people just find it weird or rather childish to collect figures. Aside from other figure collectors, most won't understand. I only know a handful that accept my hobby.

I post all my fig pics on fb and so does my beloved.Every one who visits my FB page asks me the same question

"Why no pics of yourself?" lol.

I used to keep it a secret when my collection was small.

been cinsidering doing this myself lately... i needs a better camera though :P

lol my beloved just uses an Iphone to take pics.She's more into Nendos

I think any camera with macro function and lots of time fiddling around with the figs to find a proper angle and the shot you want will give results aleast.Mine pics are okay...I think lol

Almost no one knows. I'm discreet in my anime life, and I don't look like I'm into anime IRL

^ Yes, play with your toys and take many pretty pictures of them. They'll be thankful and very happy when you do >=P

I would have to say that my beloved and my family are fully aware of my penchant for collecting figures, going for nendo/figma/doll meets and doing photography (usually with just the iPhone or with a digicam). Only a handful of my RL friends, colleagues from the same department/centre and relatives whom had the pleasure of being added on FB know that I'm an otaku. It's a wonderful hobby life xD
